Why do people dislike glock?

I went to a local gun shop and asked him why he didn't have any glocks in the display case, and he told me no particular reason. So I asked him in a different way. You don't like glocks or something? He said, yeah I like glocks but if I had to pick between a sig and a glock i'd pick the sig. if i had to pick between an h&k and a glock, i'd pick the h&k. i had to pick between a kimber and a glock, i'd pick the kimber. so i'm standing there thinking to myself he would have saved both of us a lot of time if he would have just told me that he didn't like glocks

Well, I can't stand Glocks either, so I agree with that guy! They are one of the ugliest, cheapest, most inaccurate, blow-up if you look at them wrong kind of gun I've ever seen. Hey, wait a minute, none of my Glocks have ka-boomed, my G19 has never failed me, I can pretty much fix anything wrong with them, they're accurate enough for me, and pretty doggone corrosion resistant. Just forget what I said in those first two sentences, will ya? :D

Seriously, some folks love 'em, some folks love to hate 'em. Like any other gun they are a tool that may or may not be right for the application you're intending. Only you can decide that.

He must be doing great business to not care about stocking Glocks because of personal preference. For many dealers Glocks are a major selling item.

He said, yeah I like glocks but if I had to pick between
....He must not be at the point where he has to make a pick between stocking a particular gun or staying in business yet.

Glocks are cool, but maybe the percieved dislike of them is sort of like the perceived hate of BMW drivers or Lexus drivers.

I'm relatively new to the forum, but there is a bit of GLOCK-GLOATING here. No flames please.

So, maybe people say they hate em because it seems they are the most desired and cool..sort of the yuppie gun?

Me, I like American made cars and have only bought one non-US made gun in my life. A Sako Finnbear (if you know what that model is, then you must admit you're old too).

So maybe it's the "buy American" thing.

I am torn. I like that little 33 and 36. Especially the .357 .....
but the lack of a true safety bothers me........

And, I can buy a Ruger, after market accessories and a cheap plinker for the price of one Glock?

My 1/50 of a dollar.

Cheers

Some people hate glocks because, glocks deviate against their internalized schema they have about guns; "Gun's aren't supposed to plastic!!", followed by a internal scream; "YYYYAAAAAARRRRRRRG!!!! My world is falling apart!!" That's my theory anyways... :D

I don't hate Glock's. I would never own one after shooting them. They don't feel right in my hand and I can't shoot them worth a damn.

At least I have a good reason for me.

Glocks? I've shot Glocks.

I actually shoot pretty good with the ones I've tried, and I don't doubt the comments about reliability, durability, etc., more than a little bit.

Why don't I have one or want one? The design is graceless and there are lots of guns I like more.

Regards.

P.S. I have no resistance whatsoever to temptation, so I will probably end up with one someday. Probably a compact 9mm. Better stop thinking about it now.

I knew of a gun shop where the owner constantly badmouthed the following items in front of the customers:

1) All rifles except Model 700's, M-1A's and target-type .22 bolt guns.
2) All shotguns that weren't American-made side-by-sides.
3) All handguns that weren't mil-spec 1911's or Dan Wesson .357's.

Perhaps not coincidentally, that shop is now out of business. If he had stocked the place exactly according to his own tastes, he would have been his only customer...

I don't dislike glock,
for me, I like mil gun more than commercial gun, and I haven't heard any major military is using glock, mostly glock is only popular for police,

I'm a 1911 nut.My first gun was a SIG and the rest have been 1911's but I did shoot a friends Glock 9mm a few years ago.I would definetly like to buy a 33 but I'm gonna have to wait a year or so for when I move to AZ because MA does not sell new Glocks and used Glocks sell for $600-$700 here:( I think their simple, durable, ugly fighting tools. They do what their supposed to do and do it well.

Someone must like them; they've sold about 10 bazillion of them.
I have to admit that I never really liked the boxy shape or grip angle, and I'm not crazy about a striker fired pistol.

But I did buy one last night because: Ive heard those 10 bazillion Glock owners mentioned above rave about their guns for years, and this particular model fit my hand extremely well. I'm also a little bored with the status quo and need something new to play with.

Go over to www.ar15.com and ask what everyones favorite pistol is. Black plastic seems to be the preferred material for rifles AND pistols over there.

At some point everybody just needs to sit back and say "Choose whatever it is you fancy"
If you dont like Glock for a logical reason like the way they feel or shoot, nobody should have a problem with that. If you dont like them for most of the glock hater reasons (Plasticity, foreigness, perceived quality) then that is something else. Glock like a few other manufacturers are some of the most durable, accurate, and well engineered pistols made. Anybody who takes issue with that statement needs to put "real" evidence to the contrary on the table. Notice I am not saying they are the best in those categories. The determination of that is in the beholder as it will always be. Frankly, I think Sigs are made to tighter tolerances then Glocks and are probably more accurate but does that come at a trade off of durability? Who knows. Really I think that point gets is into case by case arguments and generalities that will never solve anything.

As for gun sellers not stocking items they dont like, lets hope they dont choose to dislike to many popular items that would eventually preclude them from doing business. Just like Tamara said.

I sometimes carry a Glock 27 in my pocket and it is hard to beat the power/size ratio of the G26 or G27. But generally, I am not crazy about Glocks. The grip angle is wrong for me, the trigger feels weird and goes "twang" and they are ugly. They also have no safety or double action trigger. I prefer HK's or Sig's but I'm not going to knock Glock's role as an excellent defense weapon. I would think that any gun shop should carry Glocks, as many people are very happy with them. He should let the customer decide. Shane

What I don't like...

I've owned two Glocks, both of them were completely reliable, and with aimed fire a couple of the most accurate pistols I've ever owned. But with draw and shoot practices, I always shot at least 6 inches high at 10 yrds. That was unacceptable for a carry gun, so they had to go away. They just don't fit my hand the way other guns do (to be fair, my dad's Luger shoots the same way for me) it has something to do with the width and angle of the grip. I can't fault the gun for that. But what I can't stand and where I think alot of the Glock hatred comes from is the small percentage of Glock owners who answer every question on every BB with , "Your gun sucks, you should have a Glock". Strange, after the dozens of times I've recieved that reply, never once has it made me want to run out and buy a Glock.

I don't care for Glocks for the same reason I don't like Mooney aircraft. The are not aesthetically pleasing IN MY OPINION.

They both are fine pieces of engineering that perform their intended functions faultlessly. And they fulfill the needs of many users. But they just don't stir my soul.

For me there are some things that must draw an emotional responce in me for me to be happy with them. The Glock pistol and Mooney aircraft are two examples. My vehicles are more examples. I want to look at these possessions and feel they are beautiful in addition to being functional.

Just how I am.

I really don't have anything against them. I think they are great guns.

The major drawback for me is the grip angle. Every time I pick one up and line it up to shoot I'm pointing high. I can pick up an H&K, BHP, CZ75, 1911, Beretta, etc. and the sights line up right on. I figure I could get used to one if I practiced a lot, but why? I get along just fine with my other guns.

I haven't fired one, but would like to. All of them feel strange in my hand. When I dry-fired one, I thought the trigger was too light and too short to be safe without a safety. But I can understand how they can be accurate with that trigger. I don't think I would be comfortable carrying one with a round in the chamber. I also think they are rather expensive for a mass-produced plastic gun. I am interested in the G21 but am put off by the cost of hi-cap mags.
