who do you think makes the ugliest rifles?

"Saiga" is not a manufacturer it is the name of a product line Izhmash produces. Look at some of their other stuff, it can be quite nice looking yet I also agree with comments about their "Biathalon" rifles, that is pretty asthetically unappealing to me, lol.

I guess I'm not experienced enough - having been "accumilating" guns nearly 80 years - but, I sure don't recall ever seeing an ugly one -

I've heard that with advancing age most people require glasses that have a stronger prescription. Maybe your new lenses are rose-colored. :D

IMO - Life is too short to spend shooting ugly rifles!

I don't know if I'd say they are ugly per-say but as soon as I saw the thread title I immediately thought Savage. They may shoot great but the way they are built really leaves me cold and I have yet to see even one I would spend my money on regardless of how well they shoot.

I may not get better performance from a more expensive classic like the Remington 700 or Winchester Model 70 but I will get a gun that I will enjoy owning and shooting much more and that's worth the extra money to me.

AMC absolutely didn't use Ford engines

Stock were International motors, the ones I mentioned were dealer made special editions. Would do 13 second 1/4 mile runs. I have a 390 in my galaxie, thinking of doing a 410 stroke on it (use a 428 crank and rods etc).

The 5.0 was a 304 IH jeep engine also used in everything IH built from pickups to 20 ton dump boxes. I worked on a lot of them in the day.

The 390 had same bolt pattern for transmission as the 304 and 348 IH. Made it an easy swap. I know where my bro in laws is if you wish to come look it over. Mine was sold and the guy wrapped it up and barely lived to tell about it.

A stroked ford 390 engine, would run low 13s in the 1/4 mile. Cost 2500 more for that option. Wish I still had it.
You had a 401 XR Gremlin? I am impressed! I remember them and remember everyone pleading with AMC to make them a factory option, as the 304 simply didn't cut it for a hot rod, though even it was pretty fast. I also remember a test of the 401 XR doing mid-high 12s. I guess since the Hornet SC 360 wasn't exactly rushing off the dealer's lots, AMC didn't want to take another chance.

On the ugly rifle, I would echo the Hi-Point 995. I still want one, but won't even shoot it until it is properly ATI'd.;)

Never got it past mid 13s still faster than a vette :) I had one and my brother in law had one.

the AMX was also fast.

BTW, IH engines are ford engines :) just a little different, uses ford starter, flywheel, distr etc. AMC bought parts from any manufacturer they could.

Were a lot of guys building cars that were not factory but had factory backing. Yenko is one....
