who do you think makes the ugliest rifles?

I guess you could call the Savages ugly, unless you've fired one. Admittedly, the clean lines of a Cooper or Remington 700 are more pleasing to the eye, but to me that means nothing. BTW, I just bought an ugly Savage Precision Carbine in .223 yesterday. If it shoots as well as my Remy .308, which is a pretty tall order, then it will be just as beautiful in my eyes as any gun I own.
 
My vote for the ugliest rifle...Highpoint. Coincidently, it's also my vote for the ugliest pistol. They all look like vacuum cleaner parts to me. I've never shot one so I really can't say from experience, but I've heard they kind of mimic what a vacuum cleaner does too :)
 
From the first time I saw them in the hands of the NVA to now, I have always hated the AK-47. It is one ugly gun.
 
IMO, there's WAY too much concern about looks, and I see it in most every discipline- handgun, rifle, shotgun, even the tactical shooting crowd (although it's much more predominant with the traditionalists).

The job of a firearm is to deliver a projectile to a desired location. Everything else is secondary.

true, although, the same could be said about cars. the job of a car is to get you from point A to point B, but the majority of people will be sold on how the car looks, not how they think it'll run. I try to research product before I buy but I do consider design aesthetics of a product in addition to its functionality. so, in my eyes a rifle must not only look good, it must also shoot well. I just don't see how anyone could look at a rainbow colored Savage with a thumbhole and think, "man, I gotta have that." :D

Yep, some of them had 390 ford engines and were scary fast. :)

One mans ugly rifle is anothers beutiful gun. I care about how it shoots, the purtiest gun is worth nothing if it cant hit the mark. IMHO
 
Savage/Stevens Model 200.

Out of the box it looks like hell and doesn't shoot any better. With a little work they are great shooters but still look like hell!
 
I wondered how long it would be to mention the Hi-Point carbines......25 posts it took. :eek:

I happen to really like my Savage 110 in .270.
 
I've passed on Savage because of the looks. Even though they are all tackhammers.

The TC Icon and Venture are ugly.

The Tikka T3 is ugly.

Some (to me) unknown rifles that look pretty nice are the S & W rifle and the Marlin bolt action.

Prettiest rifles (IMHO) are:

Remington 700 most models
Winchester 70 Featherweight
CZ 550 American
Ruger M77 Hawkeye
All Weatherby's
Sako 85
Browning X-Bolt
 
french MAS

I've always thought the French MAS bolt rifles, with the two piece stock, odd slanted bolt handle, boxy mag, etc are ugly rifles.
 
Savage and H&R make the ugliest rifles. Not saying they are not well made and or accurate, but they are both branches on the ugly tree.
