I'd want something I could get ammo for. If you're not in a unit where you can basically choose what you use and which will order whatever you wish, how certain can you be that you are going to find non-issue ammo in BFE?

The smart choice, in my opinion, is to carry the issue sidearm with issue ammunition and sleep well at night knowing you won't have to worry about not being able to practice because you can't find ammo.

Tough call. For me I chose Glock, but I wouldn't cry if I had to take a Sig.

1911's are to "safe", Last thing I'd wasn't to worry about in a combat situation, with adrenaline pumping, is to switch off the safe.

Point and shoot manual of arms that is offered by Sig and Glock, have rightfully earned them a spot on the battelfield.(whether military, or law enforcment)

I'd chose my CZ-75b, mainly because it's the one from the list I'm most familiar with.

I'd probably carry it loaded, with 1 extra mag. My main focus would be my rifle, and ammo to keep it fed.

I am a 1911 fanatic and love the 45 ACP caliber, but I would take a HK USP 45. I’ll pick the HK due to the reliability and 12 +1 capacity.

You guyz are funny. The actual capacity of the most reliable 9mm on earth is THIRTY THREE rounds.
Yes, the old boy in We Were Soldiers was a 1911 type o' guy. Remember what he said about rifles?

With all the mention of "whatever's issued because of logistics," I think one interpretation the OP may have intended was assuming either "logistics aside" or fantasy scenario "logistics taken care of," or "if you could choose what is standard issue.
" - so that logistics are not an issue. In this light, I say .40 in a hi-cap CZ, HK, Walther, Sig. I also like the Browning Hi-Power, though not as hi-cap, just for its overall goodness.

I would have to say Glock since that is what I've carried for SF for 5-years
and have over 180,000 rds thru with no malfunctions !!!!!

My go to gun

Sig P226 - years of dependable service, simple, accurate high capacity, high confidence.

if BG is in front of my sig, I have a great chance.

Light and high cap. ammo and gun. Glock, or a 5.7.

Remember, guns and ammo do have weight, and the 1911 is way (In a big way't) out, way to heavy.

Ask any FBI agent about 9mm in a fire fight.
Ask any cop about how effective his body armor is against 9mm.
Ask the cops at the North Hollywood bank shootout. They rushed over to the nearest gun shop and returned with AR15's.
Ask any German soldier with a 9mm Luger or P-38 disarmed by an American soldier with a M1 and 1911.
Why would I want a high capacity pistol with ineffective ammo? More of what doesn't work.
Most nations equip their soldiers with body armour which will easily defeat most pistol rounds.
We won't always be fighting rag tag fighters without body armour.
Give me an AR15 or even better one of the new 6.8mm weapons under development.
Isn't the definition of crazy doing the same thing over and over expecting different results? (9mm)?
Forget a pistol for war. Belongs with sabers, spears and long bows.
