Glock 17. Yea I know there are other Glocks (I have some of 'em) and I know well the 1911, but I'm not worried about the .45 .vs. 9mm debate or anything like that.

In Dallas, at the 1911 .vs. Glock matches, were you have to fire 1000 rounds in the match, no cleaning allowed, the ONLY, and I do mean ONLY, handgun that virtually always goes 1000 rounds clean, without a jam, is the Glock 17. Runner up goest to the Glock 19. The 1911? Very few go 1000 rounds without cleaning. Very very few.

And that colors my thoughts. The 1911 isn't bad, and if kept clean it will work fine, but the Glock, if need be, you can skip cleaning it for quite a while. Add to that it's rust resistance and super tough polymer frame, and well, it has all the advantages a great combat pistol needs.

Ouch..NATO issue only

XD 45 tact or service with magazine extension.
If I could supply my personnel equiptment merc (sorry "contractor") style,,, my XDM 9 with DRT/JHP and 66 357 mag with fed JHP.

Glock, again

“…since concealment is no longer necessary in the situation of war…”

That depends on the kind of war. Maybe the war came to you, instead of you to it. Concealment may be very much an issue in that kind of a war. You are not going to move freely as a member of a resistance group with your M-4, in 110-degree weather. A lack of logistics for ammo, and cleaning supplies means I want a gun that there is ammo for, and does not HAVE to be cleaned. Small and compact will help in this kind of war. I like my g-26, or my g-17

“Glock, they are the AK-47 of the handgun world.”

And in this country carried by the “civil elite” (police), as well as our most illiterate “conscripts” in the “urban jungle” warfare we see and hear about from the Ghettos.

I’ll carry my Glock into a war, because I won’t really care what it looks like when I (hopefully) carry it out. I don't hear about anyone getting top dollar for a used Glock in any condition. During the war however, I will carry what ever I can get, and get ammo for. This holds for any type of war, outside of being drafted, and required to carry something other than my Glock. Glocks are durable, darn near bulletproof, and plenty of ammo for the 9mm to be had by all. What else could you ask for?

If fantasy rules apply, I'll take my g-20, and full sized magazines. Of course if fantasy rules apply, I want nuclear (neutron) bullets with a 20-meter kill radius, and make that laser guided rounds too please. I also want my personal force field with the never die battery/reactor and movie magazines too. Yeah, that should do it.

Never had a use for a handgun. Its extra weight and useless in battle if you're a ground pounder anyhow. We were issued hi-powers if it matters. I never packed one unless i was lugging around a gpmg.

for this pretend discussion, I will pretend that 10mm is plentiful in my war zone and take the Glock 20. A pretty powerful secondary weapon.

In 3rd world desert places...Glock 17/Glock 19 if I wanted to conceal it.

In USA/Europe (anyplace with normal non-extreme natural conditions such as sand that is as fine as baby powder...) then I'd carry a full size Sig P226 in 9mm.

I'd be a bad boy and not adhere to the Hague Convention of not using hollow point/expanding ammo...I'm not in the mil and would use modern generation 9mm hollow points like HST or Gold Dots. We are talking about a backup weapon (handgun) anyway.

Ok, if we are talking pretend, a Glock 20 with a 9X25 dillon barrel.

Without qeastion my old Springfield 1911-A1. I've ran at least 12,000rds through it and never has it givin' me any grief, that and theres something to be said about a heavy steel frame; if you run outta ammo you can always beat your enemy to death with it.
