Which .22 handgun is your favorite plinker?

an old Ruger......

I have an old Ruger, standard automatic, w/ a 6" brrl. that I love for plinkin'.
I bought it new, in 1962, for $39.95.
I can't tell you how many bricks of various shells I've put through it.
I had a buddy that belonged to a conservation club, where they use to sell the standard velocity long rifles cartridges from the DCM, for about $4.00 a brick, 500 rounds.

We'd all 3 of us each go through at least a brick on a Sunday afternoon, about once a month, for awhile there.
We'd shoot at match sticks at 15' or christmas bulbs at 30', or old radio tubes bobbin' in the creek
Those were some good old days.

I don't think the old eyes would do that now. That old Ruger pistol would though, if I could.
Have fun.

mt favorite plinker is a little Unique Mod 52 that i bought used about 40 years ago for $25. i lost it in the woods one fall near dark, it snowed the next day but i found it in the spring when the snow melted. it is a french made gun other than that i know little about it but it is a great plinker.

for hunting or target work i would have to go with my ruger mk 1 6 7/8" target or my ruger mk 2 5 1/2" bull barrel but this is a plinking thread right?

I like my S&W 422 and my T/C with 10" barrel. The 422 because its accurate and light the T/C because it is so accurate.

Mostly the Browning Buckmark Camper with Millett SP1 red dot sight, but the Single-Six convertible (.22LR/.22WMR) is a close second.

I love the look of the Single Six, and the Peace Maker both. My problem is if you give me a revolver then put me IN the barn.......I STILL couldn't hit any side of it! Especially the Colt, that notch in the hammer I just can't get used to it.

Difficult decison ... but S&W M41. Mine is a 7" bbl and a really neat pistol. Also have a Colt SA with std and mag cylinders, a Ruger Mk1 and 2 HS Model B's. The HS's are fine shooters.

if it weren't for that darn take down

Ruger MkII standard, 4" but I hate the takedown. Can't ever get it back together easy. But I shoot it way better than the Single six convet, or the vntage bearcat.

Oh, any one of these. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Smith & Wesson 17. I've changed those ugly grips over to S&W factory target grips and the gun looks a lot better. Shoots just as well. The Dan Wesson is close, but is a bit heavier. That MK III 22/45 will shoot the lights out. It's actually boring at times.

When I head out into the woods though, the Bearcat is usually the one I grab.

I like the wonderful Ruger Government model, not seen often and my Smith Model 41. Yeah, up there but I know they work right each time...

Thank you, every one, for all your posts!

It was reassuring to discover that the art of plinking is alive and well.

Sure, we gun owners have to cope with the issues of personal (and family) protection and perhaps even concealed carry on a daily basis. We have to cope with ammo shortages, guns we'd like to buy but can't find, and stuff we buy that breaks down. In spite of this, it's gratifying to see that a lot of us can still fall back on the humble .22 to whip up a well-deserved share of fun!

Thank you for sharing your favourites!

I think you will agree that each one of us has given the next shooter something new to want to try out(!) Personally, I'd now like to get my hands on a Stevens single-shot .22 (if I can lay my hands on one), an S&W .22 snubbie, a Model 41, a Browning, a Colt, SIG Mosquito, a Beretta, a CZ Cadet, a Ceiner conversion, and a High Standard---just to see what I've been missing all these years!

Thank you all for sharing those excellent pictures and comments! Here's to many, many years of good shooting ahead!

Best regards,

rauke

High standard Double Nine

Had one years ago before it was stolen.

.22LR/.22WMR

Adjustable sights and as loud as a 38 with the mag cylinder.

I've currently got 17 different 22LR guns. There are 3 that always go out to shoot with me though. First is a P22, then a SIG Mosquito, and finally a Ruger 22/45 with a Pac-Lite upper. These 3 are at the front because all of them get shot with suppressors. Everybody always wants to shoot them.:D

Hmmm. Close call between my Ruger MK II 5 inch bull barrel or my CZ Kadet kit on top of my 75B. The Ruger has a Volquartsen trigger and sear, so it doubles as a "target" gun, but I still carry it in the woods and plink with it.
