What's the best "out of the box" semi-automatic pistol you've owned?

I see what you're saying, LavaTech. I misread your post. I thought you were saying that you were putting a "Medalist Safety" on an existing Medalist pistol. :o

And thanks for the interesting link.

My old (3rd Generation) Smith & Wesson Model 457. From the day I bought it back in 1997, I have only had one malfunction, a stovepipe about 10 years back. It isn't fancy, but it just works.

I haven’t bought a lot of guns NIB, so, my out-of-the-box experience is limited.

Best new OOB:

Tristar-imported Canik C100 9mm Compact (CZ clone). I bought one used and liked it well enough to buy one NIB at a great price (The out-of-the-box one was just as good as the used one). Very accurate for me, 100% reliable and just a bit too large for easy CCW.

Best overall, however, has to go to my 1948-manufactured Sistema Colt. Many thousands of rounds through it by me over the years with remarkable accuracy and without a failure (attributable to the pistol, anyway: I once had two stovepipes in one magazine-load in a bad Wilson mag which I got rid of and haven’t had a problem since). Sadly, however, no box:o.

For brand-new out-of-the-box, to me it's a draw between the CZ P-07 and the Beretta/Stoeger Cougar. Only thing either one of them needed changing is the addition of night sights.

Past greats:

Beretta 84
Browning BDA 380.

Recent ones that have been perfect out of the box:

Canik TP9V2
Sar K2 45
EAA Witness 45ACP.

And almost every used gun I've ever bought.

Hmmmm...

A cz999 I have is like a extension of my hand. It feels big in my hands but it's been perfect and laser straight. It's been that way right out of the cardboard box.

My HI Power is the same way.

Easily my Ruger Standard, although I did wear it out once with a steady diet of Stingers, Mini-Mags, all the hot ones. Sent it to Ruger and they made it new again, many years ago. I went to standard velocity .22lr and never another problem other than wear and tear on the finish. Best single gun I have ever owned.
