What's the best "out of the box" semi-automatic pistol you've owned?

Glock 26.
That was a great surprise to run 100 trouble free rounds right from the box. No clean and lube I went right to the range with two boxes of WWB loaded up and shot.

Good lord, there seems to be some disagreement here. I expected this to be the second area everyone agreed on. The best breed of dog being the first area we all agree on.:D

I've had lots of great out of the box guns. Many of them have never failed, and were great shooters.

The best would be a matter of taste, or application.

I always say the Glock 19 is the best bone stock pistol ever made. That's taste though.

Some folks don't dig Glocks. That's fine. I like lots of similar pistols, Glock just hits more of the high points for me.

An American made 96 INOX Beretta and
An American made 229 Sig in 9mm
Both totally reliable, the 96 darn near shoots as accurately as my 44 mag Contender at 25 yds, unrested.;)

Only ever owned 3.

So best in terms of reliability:

  1. CZ SP-01 (bought new)
  2. G19 (bought lightly used with lighter trigger = a handful of FTFs early on: crappy ammo)
  3. MkIII (bought new: stove-pipes FTEs galore)

Best in terms of easy living:

  1. G19 (easy take down, cleaning, parts and low cost thereof)
  2. SP-01 (mainly higher cost of parts)
  3. MkIII (tedious take down, high cost of parts, having to remove chamber indicator and mag safety)

Best in terms of accuracy

  1. MkIII (hitting 6mm studding again and again at about 10m)
  2. SP-01 (can do ragged holes in my hands)
  3. G19 (decent groups, just not "CZ" groups, but then I was still learning then)

Sig P250 9mm & EAA SAR k2p, both equal.
The SAR k2p is an amazing gun for under $300, fit and finish flawless, accuracy is amazing and the recoil is minimal.
And the Sig, well it's a Sig, nuff said.

Beretta 92 FS.

Never a hangup with any that I've owned including some police beaters.

Good shooters. Reliable. As accurate as I can be.

I'm essentially a revolver guy but I've owned many 1911s, Sigs,
Glocks, etc. and etc. Truth be told, they all seem to work very well.

IMHO, the Sig P228, is my favorite bone stock pistol ever, but the G-19 is way up there:)

Beretta 92FS

By far the best, if "best" means reliable AND accurate. Fired at least 4000 rounds, probably more...Using all kinds of ammo, both cheap and high end. Never has misfired once. I've had a half dozen other pistols of all types and calibers. I cannot say the same about any of the others. I even accidentally put it up dirty for a couple years, got it back out, put 200 rounds through it before cleaning it, and no problems. If it were smaller, it would be my carry weapon.

'Best' with utterly no qualifications. That seems a little pointless to me.
Best carry? Best IDPA? Best IPSC? Best hunting? Best hunting short range? Best Bullseye? Best 3 gun? Am I off here?

5 pages of 'what gun do I like the best' doesn't seem too useful...or even interesting. Context is pretty important.

I wasn't intending to make this more complicated than it should be, my thought process is to ask the crowd which pistol was perfect to serve its intended purpose straight out of the box, set up just the way you got it. I don't know of many Comp or EDC guns that meet that criteria, there's almost always room for improvement. My Walther PPS M2 is up close to 1,000 rounds without a hiccup that is attributable to the gun, and I wouldn't make any changes to it whatsoever.

G34

A few years back I bought a G34/gen4 for the exclusive purpose of shooting in our local IDPA league. I also shot a wee bit of 3Gun with it, and a couple of LE benefit matches. It capable of more accuracy than I am, has yet to exhibit a failure, and is totally box stock, to include the Glock sights. Round count is not all that high, maybe 1500-2000 rds, but I could not be more pleased.
