I'd buy an xd bi-tone tactical .45 and a FNP 9 or 40. The XD Tactical bi-tone can be had for 560 at tacticalgunarmoury.com (Spelling) and the SS FNP's were at gunbroker for 480 something. I realize that with tax or shipping and so on you would end up a hair over 1K, but not much, and you would have not just one but " 2 " excellent pistols............

I'd buy stock - "cheap" Blue Chip probably and hunker down and wait the economy out. Then I'd buy high end single shots. Starting with a Sharps.
