What would be the one rifle to have if you could only have one?

If ya toss out rimfires I'm perfectly happy with one centerfire rifle, a .243 bolt gun. As a matter of fact, I've sold off guns and that's all that is left for centerfire rifles in my locker BY CHOICE. If you include rimfires than I'll have to stick with the rifle I use the most, a 10/22. Just glad you didn't include shotguns and I can still have my 12ga.

I love my 22LR as much as the next guy, but if I'm only going to have one rifle, I can damn well afford centerfire ammo and a great scope.
This can be a 250 yd. big game gun with modern ammo, or a plinker with light hand loads. In my neck of the woods, I'd never get more than a 250 yd. shot on anything anyway.
It's not too long for home defense, but I'd probably take a shotty for that, a Beretta TX4.
Rifle:
Scope - Leupold Vari-X II, 2-7x33
If I lived out west, I'd probably opt for something with a bit more reach, probably a 243 Savage 14 Classic.
If I lived up north, I'd probably still for the 336, but in 35 Remington.

My own 03'A3! I have a synthetic stock, and original everything else.
When I used to check my bear baits back in Colorado I owned a .378 and a .460 Weatherby rifle, but I took my ole 03'A3 for my fighting gun!

Ruger 10/22 with open sights and about 20,000 rounds of CCI Stingers. With this, I can get by not to mention it is the best feeling long gun I have ever shouldered.
Next choice, Bolt action Ruger M77 .223 with a 3-9x Leupold.

If ammo (reloading time etc) were excluded, and the rifle might often need to be carried for a while, one of my Enfield "Jungle Carbines".
Light weight, handy and with some power, designed for very short distance shooting in the '44-'45 Burmese jungles.

My Colt Model 6721 .223 Carbine and Weatherby Vanguard .223 ....... wait, you said one? OK it'll have to be the Colt.
Another for the M1 Garand:
- One of the most fun to shoot
- historical
- classic chambering, could be used for hunting
- Clint Eastwood used one to tame the neighborhood!
I would use my handguns and shotguns for home defense, but if I was camping or SHTF then the Garans would not be a bad choice.
However, to include other family members I would probably go with the AR15 as all purpose .

I lived and worked there four (4) years.
I saw VO Rifles at the 2009 UAE Hunting & Equestrian Exhibition.
(they were a really big hit with the sheikhs)
Typical Emirati over-the-top stuff.
I'm plenty happy with a Wingmaster, a Winchester 70, or an Ithaca 37.
I don't think I'd want one of these as my only gun any more than I'd want a Lamborghini as my only set of wheels.
