What would be the one rifle to have if you could only have one?

Only 1 rifle? :( No one rifle is ideal or even good at everything but if I could only keep one, it would be my Savage 110 in 30-06. Besides it being extremely accurate, here is my thinking. Small calibers just won't do for big game but the 06 will and it is still fun to target shoot with and small game can still be taken with headshots. The last 2 cottontails that I killed were with a 45-70 and no meat at all was ruined.

One rifle to do all the things I use a rifle for? good question with only one answer'

I would want my Winchester Mod.70 Super Express .375 H&H. Everything from ground squirrels to brown bears, with one caliber.

I have to admit that 200 gr, Sierra Pro-Hunters at 3000 + fps. is a bit rough on gopher pelts.

TGR

Depends, is everything still ok in the U.S. or has it gone to crap? If all is still well and we are not at war with ourselves, my Armalite AR50 is WAY to much fun to shoot to go with anything else. If it's all hit the fan and sprayed across the room, then I got to have an M-14, preferably a SOCOM-II.

Is there a context to this "only one gun" scenario? Surrounding events would be helpful in the decision. If there's no impending doom it would probably be my 25-06. It does quite well all the things I enjoy doing as pertaining to shooting. If it is an EOTWAWKI scenario then I'm not really interested in playing. Not because it isn't interesting to consider but because there's just too many variables.

ITS like chips I just cant have one,But I can make do with a 7600 270 pump & a full length ar 15. Hard to get 1 to do it all.:D

Since, happily, this was not presented as a SHTF scenario (I think we've seen enough of those), I'd go with my Sig SHR 970 in .308.

Haha guys gota add this one...one rifle correct not just one caliber...its that new barret bolt gun..can't remember the name but its primary a 338 but u can buy 300 win mag barrels and 308 barrels and use the same receiver ..( its what tactical weapons said ) :)

My Rem 700 chambered in .260 rem. It's the only rifle I have except for some old military rifled that are family heirlooms that I don't shoot.

What!?:eek:One rifle? OMG! Well, ok then; my Sako finnbear in .270 Win because it is utterly the most accurate big game rifle I own.100gr-160gr bullets will would fill the bill. Also, the OP said "what one rifle"; so I'll keep my .45acp too!
Hows that?

I can keep my pistol, can't I? :D

That's a tough question?
With a lot of variables due to geographical location for hunting or is this a dual purpose hunting/protection?
Probably 223 in a semi ar style rifle my reasons light to pack, ammo's light to pack. Can be used on small deer sized game and smaller for hunting, also a great defensive weapon for protection.

It would depend on what the rules would be for a pistol. If I could only have 1 rifle and 1 pistol, and it was some law, then I would go for a 357 lever action Marlin 1894. That would go along with my S&W Model 13-1 357 mag revolver. It would allow me in BOTH to go with the lowest/weakest 38 spl there is; through the 158 grain 38spl; to the +P 38 spl; then all the way through the 357 magnum rounds between the 37 grain - 80 grain personal defense; to the 110 - 180+ grains heavy stuff. This would allow every possible scenario of personal defense, and hunting out to 150-200 yards. But even an elk+ can be taken with a 180 grain 357 magnum at the right distance.

On a side note; I normally recommend to ALL individuals asking for advice on their "FIRST GUN" to go with the 357 magnum revolver. Simple, yet effective. Plus; you can shoot inexpensive 38 spl. Then; go with the 357 magnum lever action rifle, which will take care of most hunting, and you don't have to deal with another caliber. After that..... Is simply a matter of WANT and FUN. But for NEED: I always suggest the 357 magnum revolver as the first handgun. It has the largest selection of bullet sizes and power compared to ALL other calibers. It is about the most versatile caliber there is. And a revolver is about the most reliable there is. Throw in a matching rifle caliber, and it's perfect. But which rifle I take would depend on the rest of the limitations in this scenario. Caliber and what's the rule on pistols.

The way the article was written concerning the new Ruger, they were asking if you could choose only one gun for every purpose, that including target, bringing food to the table and defense what would it be?
Thanks to everyone’s input.

At this moment in time, it would probably be my Saiga in 7.62x39.

Ugly as sin, but exceptionally reliable and pretty darn accurate too.
