What was your first handgun?

My first gun was a Springfield Omega Match 10mm 1911 given to me by my father.

The first gun I purchased was a Taurus 24/7 PRO .45acp. Nice enough, and the price was right for a 21 year old college lad. Sold it last year for a newly used 1911 Para Ord LDA. No real regrets, but it was hard to part with the first gun I had purchased, even though I got to the point I never shot it anymore.

Used Ruger Single-Six. I wish I still had it, but the one I have now is much nicer and even shoots better.

S&W 19, nickel, 1976. Could never get used to the nickel finish; made me feel like a TV cowboy. I sometimes regret I sold it, but I still dislike nickel plated guns.

Next was Interarms PPK/S 380.

Colt Frontier Scout,,,

This is Lucille,,,
It was my Mom's pistol,,,
She let me buy it from her when I turned 16.

I still own it and shoot it a lot,,,
I can't even begin to estimate how many rounds I have sent through it.

I wanted a .22lr handgun when I was a teen, Grandpa bought me a used Iver Johnson .32 S&W long.

And get this, I could not afford to shoot it because ammo cost 8 cents a round.

The last post made me wonder....how old were most of you all when you got your first handgun? I think I was around 17 or so.

Bro, that is one seriously cool first gun. Really. Relatively rare, damn good lookin', good shootin' and for those of us that appreciate a cool caliber, even better. Two thumbs up for that one!

Springfield XD(m) 9mm. It's 5 days old, put 250 rounds through it and LOVE it! I'm in my mid 40's and this is my first handgun. Also a new member of the NRA!

Ruger MKII purchased when I was about 15, 21 years ago. (Wow!) I still have it and it makes most range trips still today. I would love to know the round count through that pistol...

S&W model 586 with 6 inch barrel. I put a LOT of rounds through that gun. Wish I still had it, it was my baby.

Much obliged. This gun is what made me fall in love with the 10mm cartridge. When I started looking for a new gun to buy, I wanted another 10mm. Sadly, few companies support the platform, aside from Glock, so I was a bit out of luck. I never cared much for glocks (at the time) and was forced to look for a gun in my second favorite cartridge, the 45ACP.

I still have the Omega Match, though seldom ever shoot it. The adjustable sights on it are in poor shape, and have a tendency to literally fly off the gun. I've been meaning to see about getting it repaired, but the local shop which handles most of my business has been unable to help, and I haven't bothered to find a good local smith on my own to take care of it. Its a bit of a shame, really; I used to be able to outshoot anyone at a fair distance using that gun. I guess its just much easier to keep this beauty in the back of the safe and not worry about restoring it to its rightful range-dominating ability. Its far too big to carry, which seems to be what I shoot most these days; my carry guns.

But, Cheers to a great gun in a very under-served cartridge!
