What if you could only own ONE handgun...

As long as I can reload, I'd probably choose any given plain vanilla 4" S&W or Ruger revolver.

If I can't, A Ruger Single Six would work fine.

My current preference has been a S&W M16 .32 mag, which has been "safe queened" due to the recent purchase of a Ruger SP101 .327 Mag.

When it comes to reloading efficiency and economics, a .32 is hard to beat.

I would still have to go with my Taurus Judge. That gives me a .410 shotgun and a .45 Colt. I darn sure wouldn't want just one but if I had to that would be it. With plenty of ammo.

I was torn between this and my P226, mostly due to capacity, but I'd keep my SIG P245.

Of the guns I used to own, I think probably (this week, anyway) a S&W Model 65LS, which had a 3" barrel--or maybe a S&W CS-1, which had a 4" barrel. There must be a good reason I don't have either one now but I just can't remember what it is.

Of the ones I have now, either the Walther P5 or the Ruger P345 but just as likely the S&W Model 13, which has a 4" barrel. The indecision is probably the reason I have them all and bad decisions are the reasons I don't have the first two I mentioned.

It is entirely possible to have only one handgun, or even just one firearm. Folks with more common sense than I have often manage to get by with just one and are more than happy. Both my late father and my late father-in-law only had one firearm each and both were .22 pistols. They just didn't see any reason to own more and I can't either, if I'm being resonable and logical, which I'm not.

Another way of looking at this question is, if you were going on a long trip somewhere, but not leaving the country, what would you take? All of them?

Is there a thread here about what if you could only own one rifle?

Ok, for TODAY, I would pick the S&W 28, 4" Highway Patrolman. .38's or target and small game, full power magnums for defense / hunting.

Of course, the Ruger .22 pistol or revolver is a good choice as well. Just one gun? OK, let me think about this again for awhile!!!:D:D

good point

,most probably a .44.
A 1911, a .22 of some type,and a .44 Mag definitely.

While I'm mostly a wheel gun guy, I'd probably go for this one....a Colt Combat Commander, originally built for .45 ACP, but customized to also fire: 9mm Luger, .38 Super, and .22 LR.

It's about as useful a pistol as one could imagine. The .45 is the most accurate with its Wilson target grade barrel and bushing, but the Marvel .22 LR slide and barrel run a very close 2nd. The other two will do 2" - 3" gps at 25 yds with selected handloads and are absolutely reliable...fit and function are good.

It's a nice rig...the same feel in the hand as well as trigger pull for all four is unique.

Simple answer for me too. My G20/21L. It started life as a G21, 45acp but soon was wearing a custom 6" steel slide with melted BoMar sights. A couple of months later and after some extractor testing using my G22 barrel mocked up to fit in the wider slide, I talked Kevin at KKM into making me a 10mm conversion barrel for it. With just the barrel and some mags, I turned my G21L into a G20/21L. I added some custom controls, replaced the front sight with a Dawson FO, rounded the trigger guard, and reworked the trigger. A few years later I decided to update it and so I had the slide hardchromed, added a Lightning Strike magwell, and installed +2 baseplates.

It's evolution:

For me it USED to be my 4" Smith & Wesson Model 686. Tougher than the K Frame I love so much...but now...Glock 22. In the US 40 cal will be more common than 9mm if you are scrounging (think LE).

But ugh...only ONE?
