What handgun would you go back in time to buy if you could?

I've thought about this many times. After I threw some bets down on some baseball games, I'd head over to the shops and pick up every gun from the great wars, including any machine guns I could afford. Wouldn't that be fancy!

a few S&W registered magnums and some unregistered magnums. And a few colt bankers specials in .22lr. Oh and a couple colt ace's. And, about 5 real SVD dragunovs when they were imported. I'd have a small fortune then.

I'd go back to 1979 and buy the same Ruger Single Six .22lr/.22wmr that I paid about $170 for at the time at a local hardware store. Only this time around I wouldn't sell it 3 years later.

Browning Hi Power

I would have bought a Browning Hi Power before they became a $1000+ gun . Out of the late great JMB's two greatest handgun designs, you can still get a very nice 1911 (IMO plz no flames) sub $700. No one really makes NEW Hi Power Clones anymore (I think Charles Daly was the last and they are bye bye) and the original Browning one is BIG $$$ (at least I consider it expensive but everything is relative/subjective in terms of the pricing of Classic items). I realize there are K's of used stuff out there but I would like a NIB nice Hi Power for the same price I can get JMB's other masterpiece for.

well the BIG problem is that to actually sell any gun made since the atf cut off date of 1899 your going to need paperwork detailing the history of them. and we know that no sw or colt is going to get full value on the retail market without that factory letter.
just for jokes, if you spend some money you can get the detailed history of every peace maker made and sold. ive seen excerpts on letters that said what day and month and year it left the factory and went to the store that sold it to the sheriffs department in arizona in 1897.

also it has to be realistic to the market. seriously, if someone shows up at "big bobs house of firearms curios and relics" with a case of griswold and gunnison revolvers in the original shipping case youll be arrested for forgery of those guns.

but if you showed up with colt 1860 serial #40,500 no one will really have an issue if its in almost pristine condition. or if you have one of the original peacemakers in the original 44 colt.

The big issue is going to be paying for the guns "back then".
Be sure to take along your supply of gold or silver. Paper and coin money will look wrong and have those "future" mint-dates on them.

I could simplify this by saying when it comes to Colts and S&W's, I'll take one of each!:D

I like old guns, I really do but to me guns are nothing more than tools.
So, if I could go back in time and acquire a gun, I would acquire the gun that would bring me the most dollars when I returned to reality.
