What handgun caliber would you rather never hear about again?

I have two....

.45ACP: Enough already....it's a competent round, but it's not SuperBullet....hearing people talk about the .45 is like hearing a guy at the VFW brag about how he and his SEAL buddies took Normandy from the Nazis all by themselves...

.40S&W: Same thing....competent, but it doesn't even have the track record of the .45....it's like listening to a mall security guy tell how he and his crack ex-SEEL HSLD tac team took down a cabal of skateboarding terrorists near the Orange Julius kiosk....

More truth....less hype....

Hello NightSleeper,,,

Back in the late 70's I was in the USAF,,,
We Airmen as a rule played a lot of pool and a lot of poker.

One morning after an all night poker game,,,
I found myself in possession of a .17 Remington rifle.

This thing proved to be awesome,,,
That cartridge sped at over 4,000 feet per second.

It was an unbelievable varmint gun,,,
It turned prairie dogs into red mist at great distances.

I think when the people developed the .17 HMR,,,
They were playing off of the notoriety of the .17 Remington.

And it was just a money making thing,,,
There was no need for the round as it filled no gap,,,
It did however provide a cash cow for Hornady if it took off.

An expensive round (relative to the .22 LR cartridge),,,
That couldn't be reloaded is a real money maker,,,
Assuming it takes off and becomes popular.

That's why it was developed,,,
Not to fill a shooting need,,,
But to fill Hornady's bank.

Ain't nothing wrong with that,,,
I just didn't buy into it.

If I want a super performing low caliber cartridge,,,
I want it to be a centerfire cartridge,,,
One that can be reloaded.

.............................................

Although I'm not suggesting it as the ideal choice in self-defense weaponry, I'm pretty sure that any caliber ranging from .22lr to .380, will still make any criminal wish he'd never picked you as his victim.

Do an experiment. 1) Have someone throw their .22 pistol at you. 2) Give it back to them and ask them to then shoot you with it. 3) Compare results.

Having said that, a few calibers I could do without hearing of again? .25 ACP, 9mm makarov, .45 GAP.

The .45 gap is such a strange caliber. I'm not sure I understand it.

The impression I get is that it only exists because Glock didn't want to spring for new frame tooling.

45 ACP. People seem to worship this round and the associated 1911. Don't get me wrong, its a great setup but its not perfect like 45 colt for instance;)

.410 ?? just cant see a real need for it...... sorry Taurus Judge fans

.25 - Seriously, get a .22 or a .32, but why a .25? :barf:

.32 - Impotent Caliber. Some excellent CC guns in this chamber like the famous Walther-PP/PPK but the round just doesn't cut it for me. 9x18 would be a better choice as you can get pretty much the same Walther-Concealment with a much more potent round.

That's it.

One caliber that I absolutely love but don't see people giving any importance to, is the 7.62x25mm Tokarev. People just gave up on that beast too soon. It's a deadly and very potent round yet the Weapons Industry have completely forgotten about it. :(

327fed.

Dear SigDude, Tell that part about the 327fed fadeing away to all the gundealer's here in the south that cant keep them on the shelf! My brother in Illinois say's the same thing is happening there.Plus the brass company's cant keep up with the back orders for the brass.I know i've been having to wait on mine.I think we are selling this little varment getter short before we know the real outcome.I think its taking off like the .17cal did for Hornady.

327mag

Straightshooter, have you fired a 327mag?If not you may be impressed! If you did and were not impressed, you were shooting it at the wrong media.Have a nice day.;)
