What handgun caliber would you rather never hear about again?

I'm tired of reading about the anemic, underpowered .380 acp.

The "where can I find some, it costs so much" comments on the interwebz have gotten really old.

The only reason people don't like the .40 is because they got sold on 9mm or .45's at some point, then stuck their fingers in their ears and went "na na na na na na na".

You are painting with a broad brush here. Some of us just don't like the .40 S&W. For me its because the recoil is unpleasant, the guns are often somewhat less accurate than their 9mm counterparts, and .40 S&W is the least feed reliable in my experience of the "big 3" (9x19mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP). For the record, I've owned a lot of different .40 S&W guns and I've really tried to like them, but they always end up getting sold off. The only .40 S&W pistol I am cursed with is the one issued by my department, and I have no plans to ever acquire another. I gave it a lot of chances, and it doesn't work for me.

The 9mm is an OK round. Has trouble piercing auto glass, but it's ok. .45 is a great round, you just have capacity issues.

Based on what exactly? I've seen plenty of 9mm rounds penetrate auto glass over the course of my career. As for the .45, what exactly are capacity issues? It really seems hard for a lot of folks to believe (especially younger gun owners), but a lot of us don't give a hoot about bottomless capacity magazines. Some of us (gasp!) carry revolvers. I would certainly never argue that having lots of rounds in a magazine is a bad thing (provided the girth of the gun doesn't effect conceal-ability or cause one to leave it at home), but I'm much more concerned with ergonomics and shoot-ability than I am about capacity. My preference is for single stack magazines and revolvers.

The .40 in the right pistol is a blast to shoot. It has better penetration through objects like auto glass, more capacity than a .45. Its a great round, get over it.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion, which is exactly what that is. My opinion is that the .40 is the worst of both worlds. We don't have to agree, nor do I, or anyone else, need to get over anything. I'm more than happy to admit that the .40 works on the street. That doesn't make it "best", it just makes it an option for people who's needs and wants are different than mine.

I do what to be clear that I don't want the .40 S&W to go away, I'm just tired of hearing about how "perfect" it is.

The oddball ones thunk up only for marketing purposes.
.41 mag
10mm
.40

Really dude? The 10mm and .40S&W were just marketing ploys?

Have you by chance ever heard of the Miami Shootout? I'm pretty sure the FBI & Jeff Cooper didn't give a **** about marketing. Just saying...

Mainstream
.40 S&W (buy better 9mm ammo or just get a 45acp)

I disagree.

Niche
.45 GAP (a solution without a problem)

This, I agree with.

I do what to be clear that I don't want the .40 S&W to go away, I'm just tired of hearing about how "perfect" it is.

While, on the flip side, we who appreciate the .40 S&W are tired of hearing about how "inferior" it is when compared to its "big brother," the 10mm.

I have just never warmed up to the .40 S&W, but would LOVE to get my hands on another 10mm.......thats what a .40 caliber cartridge should be.

Based on what? Also, if the .40 S&W were the cartridge it "should be," then it would still be called a 10mm...and harder to shoot...and more expensive.

Of course, none of this really matters.

Regardless, to me, when speaking of caliber "practicality/usefulness," it depends on how it will be implemented, along with the situation(s) surrounding such an implementation. So, in a sense, most calibers these days can hardly be considered "unworthy" of mention and merit.

As a side note- I harbor great affection for the .45ACP over any other handgun caliber. However, when it comes to CC, the .40 S&W is my choice.

I cant think of a single caliber.....Any caliber is better than a sharp stick.
So those of you who think any one caliber is useless......Try being shot by one.
Then get on here and try to regurgitate your stupidity....if you can.

I would rather go up against a guy with a bat then a gun of any caliber.

I'm tired of hearing about the 5.7x28, and especially about the Five-Seven.

I'm also tired of the .327 Mag. The lighter loads are similar to the 7.62x25, which this forum regards as useless for self defense:rolleyes:, and the heavy loads are similar to a light 9mm. The 9mm isn't really a practical revolver caliber, and some people don't find a .38 special +p suitable for whatever reason, and it gives you more rounds in a cylinder. Fine.

Even if the cartridge makes sense at least at some level, I'm tired of hearing about how it's the most amazing and misunderstood defense caliber ever. They way you hear people talk about, it's an elephant killer that fits right in your pocket.

No. Just no.

If it was regarded as what it actually is, I wouldn't have any problem with it.

I don't think we should get rid of any. Variety keeps it interesting. All of the research and developement in very recent years has contributed to the sport regardless of whether or not each specific cartridge catches on. Improvements in powders, bullet construction, efficiency are sometimes a result of experimenting with new and different cartridges. So if we end up with a few unwanted cartridges down the road it's still fun ain't it? :D
As far as the old and less popular "niche" cartridges I think you may be surprised to find that there are still small but loyal groups of dedicated fans buying up the ammunition. Do I like "niche" cartridges? No.
I can think of a few that I would never own but I sure like having a lot to choose from. So many cartridges, so little time....:)
Trust me. I'm a doctor...;)

I don't really care about 9mm vs .45 ACP or any of the other "caliber wars" that go on. Each has a place, and the shooter has a right to buy whatever he believes will be effective, for whatever purpose.

I'm tired of hearing about the .410 shell out of the Judge. The .45 Colt is a MUCH better HD/SD round in my opinion, and there are so many better options other than the judge chambered for it.

This, however, I can agree with! IMO, the Judge is one of the biggest marketing ploys conceived in recent times. "Improved" ammunition for it is another marketing ploy, by the ammunition manufacturers.

What's the attraction? 3 (or 5) .38 calibers projectiles at once...you don't have to practice to develop marksmanship...

Is everything going to follow the path of "fast food"? Immediate gratification, no need to expend any effort, low cost, etc. PHOOEY.

Now ask me how I really feel... :)

.60 caliber

These .60 caliber handgun fanatics are getting on my nerves. They are just too cool and macho acting for me, I guess. Always going on about how their .60 caliber pistols have enough stopping power to take down an elephant, helicopter, tyrannosaurus rex, etc, etc. :barf:

Surely I'd rather not hear any more from the 9mm crowd. They want a light shooter but then feel that they have to shoot +P or +P+ to have an effective caliber. Either 40s&w, 45acp, or 10mm are much better choices.
