What handgun caliber would you rather never hear about again?

Never cared for the 25acp. I could just never figure out why some LEO's carried the 25 as a bug when there were,IMO, better calibers(in small packages) to carry.

.460 S&W & .500 S&W - The .454 Casull can take care of business just fine.

.40 S&W - The 10mm outshines it in every way. And they have no real difference in recoil to me.

.45 ACP - It's good, great even, but it ain't the end-all be-all of semi-auto cartridges. That honor goes to the 10mm. :D

.45 GAP - Why?

.380 - Why? Make mine a real 9mm please and mini-size the gun, not the round.

All Weatherby Magnums - Not enough benefit for the cost you pay.

All Remington Ultra-Mags - Not enough benefit for the cost you pay.

5.7 - :barf:

.357 Mag - Why not carry a .41 Mag, or a 10mm?

.44 Mag - Why not carry a .41 Mag or .454 Casull?

.50 AE - :barf:

I Do Not Want To Hear About

7.62x25, .30 Mauser or 30 Luger and I'll throw in the 357SIG. Any of the Action Express cartridges and the D'Eagle along with it. 50GI why?
But that's just because you asked, other wise I'd have kept all that to myself.

Truly, it would have to be the 10mm.

Regardless of how "effective" it is, IMHO this round is the equivalent of an expensive, tempermental pig.

As an extension of this, I am sick and tired of the whole ".40 S&W vs 10mm debate." Lets try putting things in the proper context here.

Anyway, I guess any handgun caliber has it place. What place this resides in is entirely up to the user and his/her own needs/abilities.

I get around the cost of the 10mm by hand-loading.

I think it's a great caliber myself...and really there's not much talk about it...it has such a tiny following. If I am in bear country, that is what I carry, a 10mm with full house loads.

This would certainly help.

I have no real issue with the caliber (in spite of my previously posted comments). However, I have heard it mentioned ad nauseum in terms of its comparison to the .40 S&W. This does grow tiresome at times.

The only beef I have with the .40 is that it never really became an inherently accurate round compared to say the .45. The 10mm is a very accurate round.

I guess I grow tired of two VERY cliche'd statements by the gun crowd:

1. The .40 is the perfect bridge between the 9mm and the .45

OK...how is that and why do we need a bridge between those two rounds in particular? The 9mm and the .45 are two completely different animals for one. The 9mm is a real penetrator in its ball form, in fact in a lot of tests, it will penetrate further than the .45. The .45 is much more of a wrecking ball. Penetration is good. Wrecking balls are good. High capacity is good. Inherent accuracy (.45) is good. Blah blah blah. On and on. So...I GUESS people consider the .40 as the perfect compromise between a penetrator and a wrecking ball?

2. The ."40 Short & Weak" statement.

Don a bulletproof vest and have your friend shoot you in the chest with a full house .40, then tell me it's "weak". End of story. It's a bullet. It hurts.

I suppose it is stopping power (a bit more respectable than the 9mm) meets capacity (a bit more than most "easily" concealed .45ACP's, without the weight)...all while being accurate enough to get the job done and more, with practice. Who knows?

The .40 is indeed an acquired taste; one which I just happen to have grown to feel quite comfortable with (as a CCW).

Now, the 9mm... I just cant get around the idea, outside of shot placement, that I tend to regard the 9mm as more of a bleeder than a quick stopper. But, I recommended this caliber, once upon a time, to my wife. She likes it well enough I suppose; and with the proper ammo, it seems effective enough. Unfortunately, she shoots my .45ACP better, go figure. Should have probably bought her one of those instead. :) Now its time to introduce her to other calibers, now that she feels she is "ready."

Agreed.

Personally, I don't see the point of the 9mm. Does that make it a "bad" caliber? There are probably more people who would not agree, than agree with me on this. I guess they are just bad people, because they don't recognize my supreme opinions. Just being a smart a** here, people. Whatever you like is what you should shoot.

The useless calibers IMHO (or maybe I should say again that I just don't see the point) are:

45 gap
357 sig
9mm parabellum
327 mag
25

But then, I also don't see the point of any revolver being chambered for an ACP round. There was a time and place for this, and a rimmed round was created for the surplus of military revolvers. That is where that should have ended, but who the heck am I?

I have two....

.45ACP: Enough already....it's a competent round, but it's not SuperBullet....hearing people talk about the .45 is like hearing a guy at the VFW brag about how he and his SEAL buddies took Normandy from the Nazis all by themselves...

.40S&W: Same thing....competent, but it doesn't even have the track record of the .45....it's like listening to a mall security guy tell how he and his crack ex-SEEL HSLD tac team took down a cabal of skateboarding terrorists near the Orange Julius kiosk....

More truth....less hype....

Gee, I only have one.

9mm. A person can't post anything about a .45 ACP or a .40 S&W without having to put up with half or two-thirds of the replies telling about how the 9mm is "just as good" with "more capacity" and "less recoil".

For that reason alone, I wish I'd never have to hear about the 9mm again. It's a competent round for those that choose it, but nothing exraordinary.

For me it'd make a great range gun; sorta like a .22 pistol. Other than that, I find no use for it for me. YMMV, of course.

9mm

A minor caliber at best

Depends on the shooter and ammo used. I hate to say it as I am certainly a fan of the larger calibers. But, it is what it is.

40 should go away.....please i like 9mm and 45 myself....good ol' 45

Why the "attitude" towards the .40 S&W? Because it is not a 10mm? It was not meant to be.

I noticed you like the 9mm....is the .40 any less worthy of respect? Hardly, IMHO. The .45ACP.....no comment really. I love it.

9mm is a successful round...period. Maybe not everybody's favorite but it has stood the test of time. Today with the newer technology such as the CorBon Pow-R-Ball and other +P loadings, it's even better. A LOT better. And very efficient too, for it's size. Very compact round that wastes no space whatsoever. A LOT of people, let's hope mostly bad guys, have been killed by the 9mm.

Here are my favorites in order of favorite to least favorite:

1. .357 Magnum. Simply Awesome. Nothing beats it in my mind.
2. .45 ACP. A 230 grain lumbering cannonball. I don't worry about over-penetration or failure to expand. It drills one LARGE hole.
3. .327 Federal. Hate it all you want, but this little scrapper of a round is NASTY. Shoot one, you'll like it.
4. 10mm. A super-hot .357 in an automatic with an 10+1 capacity. Ouch.
5. .44 Special. Under-rated round.
6. 9mm. Not sexy but respectable firepower in a high cap gun.
7. .40 S&W. Come on, this IS a successful round guys.
8. .38 Special. A snubbie has saved many a life. Very fun to target shoot with
9. .44 Magnum. To me, this is still the most powerful handgun in the world and always will be. Ask me to explain if you dare :)
10. .357 Sig. Power in the most reliable auto cartridge made. Its necked-down design allows it to enter a chamber as easy as you can enter an excited....err...will leave it at that.

Anyway, just my opinions! Would love to hear some others!
