U.N. making homeschooling illegal?

A paper tiger!?!?

That paper tiger gave Saddam Billions of OUR tax dollars for they're own selfish gain, go ahead and protect the UN.

The spinless UN has caused more war and human suffering than anyone on earth and then the USA has to go clean up the crap.

When the UN gets around to doing something, anything productive then start a thraed!

Eghad, Why HS and private schools out do public HS

Eghad said:
The primary advantage private schools have is motivated parents, because they paid tuition. A public school will have every kind of student/parent combination, including both motivated and uninterested parents.

I would submit private schools are better because

They have a flexibility of cirriculum that public shools cannot offer because of the multitude of federal and state laws.

In most public schools teachers may only have a teaching certificate and enough hours for a major in the subject they teach. While some private school teachers have degrees in the subjects they teach

I had the pleasure of seeing a woman we know again who went from public schools to a private school to teach. She said she can devote more time to the students because of less administrative burden placed on her in a private school. She was a very well recognized eacher within the public school winning some national awards.

discipline is not a problem in private schools, unlike public schools which have a duty to accept bad students back.

We have private schools here which are very competitive locally and in the state.

Eghad,

1. failing or poorly performing public schools have being known to improve and get better when limited use of vouchers threatened them with loss of funding because parents who were now empowered with power of choices decided to send their children elsewhere.

2. undergraduate college students and graduate students who major in education are the least capable academic students (lowest SAT/GRE scores). Quite often, educational theories, which were not sound, have done far more harm than good. Such as bilingual education and conceptual math where mathematics is learned by reading about it instead of working out problems repetitively.

3. the fact that home schooled children do the best academically shows how unimportant education degrees are.

Single reason why public schools fail is because they don't face competition. Competition provides accountability. Public schools in Europe have to provide sound education (what parents want) because if they don't, the parents will send their children to schools which provide what parents want. Private schools are usually better than public schools because if they don't do their jobs, the parents of students will patronize other schools (vouchers are widespread in Europe --- see Stossel's Stupid in America).

Yeah.. I was going to make a post pointing out what's wrong with 2nd's post directed toward me, but I think it's better that I not.

Okay, back on topic. The UN will never have the power or wherewithall to affect things like guns, education or anything else in powerful member countries, least of all the US. This topic is pointless and largely a work of fiction by people who could be concerned with actual problems we have in the US, rather than what the powerless bogeymen at the UN are doing.

How's that?

Wishful thinking.

"Although international law and the law of other nations are rarely binding upon our decisions in U.S. courts, conclusions reached by other countries and by the international community should at times constitute persuasive authority in American courts."

"I know from my experience at the Supreme Court that we often have much to learn from other jurisdictions."

"I think that we Supreme Court justices will find ourselves looking more frequently to the decisions of other constitutional courts, especially other common law courts that have struggled with the same basic constitutional questions that we have."

"International law is no longer a specialty...It is vital if judges are to faithfully discharge their duties."

- Sandra Day O'Connor, United States Supreme Court Justice

Hint: Primary education is already compulsary in the US.

Your choice is public, private or home. There is no "none of the above". You are not allowed to let your child go without education.

And some have laws that some members of the society cannot be educated: Taliban on girls.

This is the heart of the issue that the UN was attacking (despite the silly homeschooling scare).

I don't know, or care, if the Germans allow homeschooling. It is not pertinent. Each country has a right to determine how its children become educated adults. But no one has a right to deprive children of the basic educational tools necessary to function as a thinking adult.

I can’t speak for everywhere else, but I have my own theory as to why the school system in my home town blows, and my poor grammar skill are going to shine in the next several sentences.

In one word POLITICS. In my home school district they have a history of not necessarily hiring the best people available for open positions. However, there is a direct correlation between those hired and their relationship to members of the school board, the district superintendent, or current faculty. To me it is disturbing the sheer number of sons, daughters, nieces, and nephews that have been hired the last several years. I could be wrong, but there is a definite pattern.

I am a product of our education system and the older I get the less impressed I am of my educational experience. I am by no means a genius, but I wasn’t very challenged in grammar school. Unfortunately, this caused me to develop poor study habits, and I paid the price in high school and college. I still managed to graduate with an engineering degree despite taking a few years off in the middle of my college education.

The thing that burns my backside the most about the whole thing is despite holding a B.S. in engineering, and completing more math classes than I care to remember I am not qualified to teach in the public school system in Illinois. I can, and have, taught classes on the college level, but because I do not have an education degree it a no go in the public system.

If people were half as concerend with their own politicians dismantling our freedoms as they are with the paper tiger U.N. (which only has power whenever we choose to give it to them by way of troops), the country wouldn't be in the dire shape it's in.

Marko, I regularly disagree with you, but you hit the nail right on the head with that one...I'd even add that if half of the "concerned" citizens who wail and gnash their teeth on this Board over stuff actually GOT INVOLVED things would be a lot better.

But its so much easier to chest thump.
