I didn't mean to suggest otherwise; brain activity varies but unless I'm mistaken it's rare before the first trimester. A fetus can be born prematurely but more than a trimester is pushing the envelope and you'd be very lucky to not end up with birth defects. I'm not saying your cousin wasn't human until her due date, merely that I believe until she was no longer in her mother's womb that she was an integral part of her mother's body.
I'm glad she came out happy and healthy.
It's a very touchy subject, really. I just think the scariest part is that if we give the government the power to ban abortions then they'll also have the theoretical power to require them. I don't like leaving such issues in the hands of any government and while it sickens me to think that women would consider using abortion as a form of birth control (although it's a very rare practice considering the trauma they face when going through that*), I still feel that it's not the government's choice.
Moving past that issue, republicans still demand they have authority over who can and can't marry. They also demand to restrict the chemicals I can put into my body. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not a democrat but I do find it grossly hypocritical of many republicans who demand the right to own guns but then freak out when George and Frank down the street want to get married or when the guy across the street wants to enjoy a bit of pot when he gets home from work.
The abortion issue is the trickiest one, in my opinion. But other issues of personal freedom that republicans try to control are just as crucial as the economic freedoms that democrats try to control.
edit: *to clarify, I meant that it's rare for women to get multiple abortions as opposed to using the pill or other forms of birth control.

That's the lie that Clinton and Reno were peddling. The fact is, the Texas Dept. of Child Welfare made seven unannounced checks on the children there before "The Government" attacked them. The TDCW people found the children to be well fed, well dressed and showing no evidence of malteratment or abuse of any kind.
It wasn't about a tax. It was about "The Government" making an example out of a group of people who were storing up guns with which to defend themselves against whatever harm may come their way.
The socialist Clinton/Reno government, true to socialist form, decided to use force to make the Davidians submit or make an example out of them to the rest of the nation. As I said in an earlier post:
After weeks of being made to look foolish, impotent and incopetent, the Clinton-Reno government threw an enormous tantrum and attacked the Davidian compound, burning alive the evidence of their unlawful assault - human beings, American citizens, leaving no witnesses - except a few survivors, which were thrown in prison to try to silence them.
I'm sure the children were grateful for that, and are much better off as a result. [sarcasm off]

I have to agree with slash for the most part. The fact is that the Rep party is what the dem party was a generation ago. The dem party is what the socialist party was a generation ago.
In defence of 25's statements: The republican party is LESS LIKELY to take your guns...and they aren't as extreme in their ignorance and hatred of the evil firearm.
There are some in the rep party that are not pro gun control though. Maybe 3 in the dem party!!
