The Walmart Ammo thread

Anyone have any reports of Wal-marts in/around the willamette valley in Oregon? I am going shooting this weekend and would like to hear if its worth it to go out checking the wal-marts before i hit the range... I am looking for .45 auto, .40SW, and .223 Rem. Thanks for any help!

Anyone have any suggestions how to prevent this 150 - 300% mark up @ gun stores? I mean its really "unethical" IMHO. cant really prove it one way or the other...

how to prevent this 150 - 300% mark up @ gun stores

What's to prove ? If the merchant wants to stick it to his customers, he should feel free to do so, and you should feel free to shop elsewhere. Nothing wrong though in telling him as you walk out the door for the final time why he should not expect you to return.

But if the local gun store is buying ammo when and where they can get it at whatever price they can find it at, then maybe, maybe their markup is higher than would be typical. Not many stores have the buying power of WalMart. The ammo manufacturers probably have contracts to honor to WalMart too.

One of these days the ammo shortage will be mostly over, and then the dealers that screwed their customers will be crying the blues.

How to prevent a 100%-300% mark up? Do what I did and do not buy it and tell them why and to go pound salt in their a**!

Just for ****s and giggles, has anyone ran across any of these WW's stocking the Blazers in 9mm again? Or is it all the Federal, and Winchester? I've personally never seen either the Blazers or Winchester bulk packs. But I seen other on this thread have run across the Win. bulk.

Another reason why I ask this, because it seems like these ammo company's are releasing them in waves. For instance, I've been able to get the Federal Champions for quite some time at my Local gun shops. And it's the same as most Wally's have been getting in stock. Now however, my locals have tons of Blazer 9mm in. (Both shops in the area) I'm wondering if the Blazers may start popping up in WW now?

I remember 3 years ago now...? when the 9mm 100 round value pack of WWB cost 9.98. The last time I purchased the same box about a year ago it was 14.98. Its time for me to buy some more practice ammo now; im affraid of what the cost is going to be :barf:

Ammoman.com has some of the best prices I have seen, love that site.

I don't LIKE to shop at Wal-Mart, but I do go there for my practice ammo. Seems like it is about the only thing that I ever shop for from WW that is still made in the USA. Given the choice, I will gladly pay an extra dollar or two to support American jobs. But on the other hand, I am not talking 50-75% more than what I can pick something up at WW for though. Make it reasonable and I will shop there. Gouge people and I won't.

Just my .02 worth.

This thread is supposed to be about ammunition sold at Wal-Mart, NOT about Wal-Mart's overall economic philosophy of enterprise or its international/domestic purchasing practices.

WW has 12 boxes of 45 auto(it is the Federal red box) left on the shelf I just bought 4 for myself and there are also 38scl. 357mag(50 round WWB), 4 boxes of 20 of 45 Colt(Winchester), They also had a pretty good supply of Federal red box 9mm, 40S&W, and some bulk boxes of federal.410 short slugs(same length as 45 Colt.)

Since about December I've been able to find (hit or miss) both Blazer Brass (50ct $8.97) and WWB (100ct $21.97) in 9mm at our local Wal*Mart. Maybe a month ago they seemed to stop stocking the Blazer Brass and moved over to the Federal Champion (exact same cost as the Blazer Brass). I'm still able to find both Federal Champion and WWB maybe once or twice a week. Since this is only practice ammo, I'm fine with Blazer Brass, Federal Champion or the WWB. As long as they don't start stocking the shelves with Wolf, you won't hear any complaints from me.

The last two Wal-Marts I've been in had 50 ct WWB 9mm for $11.97--several boxes in stock. Price on the shelf for the 100 packs was $20.97 but both were out of stock. Both clerks indicated that they were consistently getting in the 100packs but were selling them fairly rapidly. Both clerks also indicated that things were much better, both in terms of slowed sales and better deliveries.

One of the two also had a single 100 pack of .380 WWB for about $34.

yea,the only problem with ole wally world is there employees, they have a tendency to stash ammo in the back for themselves and for there friends and to hell with the customers!!found that little secret out from an employee there that let the cat out of the bag as he was an old man and didn't care as he felt it wasn't right,he saw I was coming in every morning for almost a month trying to get 9mm ammo one day he said I know the truck came in and there was a case on it,it should be out let me go look for you. 15 minutes later came out with a case and 1/2 of 9mm shaking his head apologizing to me, told me some one apparently tried to hide it behind a pallet of other goods in a corner and he was sure they wouldn't be happy when they found there stash was gone! There's your shortage!they hide it till they get paid or pay day for there friends then they come in and buy it for each other.................

Low and behold the Walmart next to me had 16 box's Fed 9mm for $8.97, to bad it was 1am, I really wanted to try some out.

Ohh, and one box ot 44mag/50 Rem's, $32.97, and a few .25aps.

Yeah, I've noticed that .44Mag has stayed in stock pretty much everywhere I've checked throughout this whole snafu. .357SIG has been another caliber that seems to have weathered the shortage pretty well. Haven't paid much attention to .25ACP but I do seem to recall seeing some here and there fairly consistently.

I scored 4 boxes of the Federal Champion .40SW for under $13 a box -- a very excellent price for reloadable brass and a cartridge that goes bang everytime..accuracy wasn't to write home about but it was great practice ammo to get more acquainted with my new H&K. I also was able to get a Rem/UMC 100 round value pack of JHPs. They also had several boxes of varying brands of .223, 9mm, .38 Special.

Still no .45 Auto anywhere! Ugh.

Yeah same here. That's just funny.

I got 4 boxes of Federal Champion .40 for $12.95 a box about an hour ago. They had 5 but I decided to leave a box (I never buy the last box unless they only have 1 or 2).

I will say though, it took me 30 minutes just to buy them. I had to go to 4 other departments and talked to 6 employees before I could get someone to sporting goods. They paged over the intercom "customer needs assistance in sporting goods" 3 times with not result. Finally a guy came over from automotive and said he was working in the garage . Either way, he rung me up and I was on my way.
