The Walmart Ammo thread

I got a good chuckle during my lunch break when I stopped by the Walmart that's practically across the street from where I work. As I approached the sporting goods counter the sales clerk was asking an older gentleman how she could help him. He just blurts out that he wants some .380, .45's, .40's, and .22's. I glanced behind the counter and saw they were out of everything except shotgun shells like usual. Just chuckled thinking this older gentleman seriously thought he'd get all that, especially the .380's.

Every manufacturer out there is making money hand over fist right now, and if you want to invest in stock right now look no further than the firearms industry.

Associates who "put back" or hide items--including ammo--for someone else are subject to dismissal. There's even a term for it, "understocking". I have a couple of friends of mine at the local Wal Mart where I used to work who will call me when ammo I want comes in, but I won't ask them to hold it or hide it for me. I wouldn't want them to get in trouble over it. By far the hardest ammo to find right now is .380 ACP. My friend Carl, the dept manager at the sporting goods dept, told me that he hasn't even seen .380 ammo since November.

Cry babies.
Start reloading.
Start casting bullets.
Start practicing the American Way of self reliance and quit crying about Wal-Mart EEs and other people buying up all the ammo.
:D
(Seriously, though.)

I got a 100 round value pack today of Winchester 115gr 9mm fmj for $20.98 at Wal Mart. They had 8 boxes on the shelf, I didn't feel like being greedy by buying it all, I have serveral hundred rounds in my safe. They also had several boxes of .380.

My local store in Austintown gets in 9mm and .40 about once evey 7-10 days. It is either WWB or Blazer Brass. You just cant reload the 9mm much cheaper at $8.97 for 50. You have to be there in the AM or you don't get your 6 box limit. Some have speculated one of the local gun shops was buying them out every time they got something, taking it back to their shop and selling at markup. That is why they instituted the limit. Who knows, but somebody was buying 50 to 75 boxes at a time. Got a surprise the other day and was able to buy two boxes of .44 MAG. Guilty secret: if they do have it, I send my wife back in to by six more boxes. That has been quite a conversation starter for some at the ammo case.

Supplemental to previous post. Local Dick's and Gander Mountain have ammo, but you wouold not believe (well maybe you would) the prices they are charging. Dick's isn't so bad at about $4 bucks per box higher than WalMart, however, Gander Mountain is laughable. Seriously $26 for 50 WWB 9MM!!!

One more thought and I promise I will shut up. If indeed part of the shortage is due to newbies (I am a fairly new enthusiast myself, just now trying to get into reloading), we should be rejoicing that we are adding to our numbers and that there are those who truly value the right to be able to have these arms, use them and have a rational concern over the possiblity of that right being limited. Everyone I have exposed to shooting over the past few years has truly enjoyed it, some have joined the NRA, and yes, many are now buying ammo that they would not have purchased a year ago. Let's just hope the manufacturer's get caught up soon and their manufactuing and availability of their product is not hindered by any restrictive laws in the future.

ive tried several times now to find another box of .40 at WM like i did last week, but to no avail.
it got to the point i felt the wasted gas was gonna end up costing me more in the long run.so i went to the local gun shop wich does deal in high sales.
i picked up 6 of 50's boxs at $16.99 for fmj's
they had a 10 box limit on 9mm and .40
but the .380 i did see was a 2 box limit.

im just getting back into pistol shooting and needing a HD gun also.my gun shoots 10mm wich i have 200 rounds off,but my .40 conversion barrel will be here tommorow and i have 400 rounds of that.
im not sure what 10mm normal prices are as its a new caliber to me,but now with the ammo issues going on its $37 for a box of fmj's for 50.

i dont much believe in stocking ammo for armagedon or crazy laws im guessing that may happen.but i would like to keep enough on hand so im not scrambling to the gun store thats 40 miles away as 10mm isnt carried hardley anywhere.
i just hope those .40's put a smile on my face half as much as shooting a 10mm load does.at least i got 180gr i just hope they are strong enough to cycle my new 22lb recoil spring.if not i will be taking the stock one to the range anyhow.

Update:

I was into Wal-Mart today, and they have now instated a 3 box limit PER CUSTOMER on anything except shotgun target loads. This means a person can only walk out of the store with 3 boxes of "behind the counter" ammo TOTAL per day. As before, there was a fair bit of assorted long gun ammo, but next to nothing for handguns.

I was just in there a couple weeks ago, and at that time I was told there was a 6 box limit per caliber (I believe). The counter woman said supply has gotten much tighter here over the last month, and demand just keeps growing. In general, the shelves did look emptier than they did the last time I was there.

My first real Wal-Mart victory of the year (found 100rnd boxes of 223, and 325rd boxes of 22 before) For the first time this year I was able to score 3 100rd boxes of WWB 155 9 for 19.xx (all they had)
They also had 380, 357, 44mag, and 7.62 in stock....

Hey guys I got a box off 22 ammo at wal-mart for 9 dollars did I get a good deal?

Depends on how many rounds are in the box. Box of 50 or 100? Bad deal. Brick of 500? Good deal. Box of 525 bulk? Good+ deal.

I just added 500 rds to my growing hord of .22LR CCI Mini-Mags. Been doing it every week or so for a few months now.
They had some 357 and 25 Cal today. As soon as I find some 380 I'll buy it all.

I picked up some 9 yesterday. Couldn't believe they actually had some. They had Federal ammo this time instead of WWB or Blazer Brass. Had it marked at $10.97, but it rang up at $8.97.

Bullseye shooting over combet shooting?

Hi to all.
I have been shootingfor well over 50 odd years now and when I started we were all shooting bullseye type of shooting at 25-50 yards, one hand on pistol and the week or other hand on hip or in back pocket! our rifel training was the basic 200-300 & 500 yards open Iron sights on the rifle range with the M1 Garand rifle In 30-06. Along the way I also had training with all types of weapons because of the typ of outfit I was In, Recon, now called special opps? So we had all the extra training that other troops did not have. Instinct shooting, walking a field with pop up targets, and the like, a Hogans alley type set up In and out of buildings, pop In and out, right and wrong targets with rifles, shotguns, machineguns and pistols, the whole 9 yards more or less! that was then and now on to now! I had a CCW In PA. for 10 two 5 year stints and there was no training required to get the CCW. I truly think that there should be a hands on training! Now I have moved to Delaware and here you have to have training to get a CCW. I went through In the passed year the training and now have my CCW. My neighbor wanted to go for his CCW and he Is In his early 40s and never fired a hand gun before, which Is good and bad, at leased he was not starting out with any bad habbits and that is a +, So him knowing some of my background ask me more or less if I could help him learn to shoot a hand gun, now what was needed was to learn how to shoot at 15-20 feet at a man sized target. He need to shoot for the instructor about 100 rounds at that combat range? I did the same when I got my CCW. I told him I would help him, and I told him that I think It Is the wrong way to learn but would do so anyway! He took the course and passed and the paper work is In and now he just has to hang on for the next 6 or so weeks for the paper work to get done, cook?. I have sinse took him back to the range twice and told him to try to forget about everything he just had to learn about shooting and that now we are going to put the horse in front of the cart, I have him shooting from 25 yards at a 8" bullseye, I wanted to go back to 50 yards but at first I know it would be to much. He ask why, and I told him that if he could hit that 8" bull at 25 yards without problem, he then should be just about able to hit that man size target at 15feet with his eyes just about closed!!! Or In the dark of knight, and I also had him shooting from the hip at 15 feet with no sweat. I would have rather had him start In at that range, from 25-50 yeards, but this Is what we had to work with.
I have been told that you should not be shooting from 75 feet/25yards In the first place, and I say this Is not the point, The idea is that if you are good enough to be able to hit a 8" bull at that distance, it should then be a peice of cake at 15 feet!!! and he was told to never even try to shoot at someone at any long distance, and why, the threat Is gone & You are not a cop!!!
Sorry for the bad spelling, not my thing, Semper fi to all, Hank D.:)

Walmart in Roanoke, TX had a couple 50 round boxes of Blazer .40 when I was there about one hour ago. They also had some 100 round packs of Rem 22LR. It said target on the box but the price seemed a little high to me at $10.00 per 100.

I didn't buy anything so it all might still be there if someone calls them soon.

No ammo in the Academy or WalMart today - Archaeolgists in the future will date time on the distribed ammo to noammo boundary layer (except for discrete piles of ammo in some ancient houses.

Kind of like the Iridium layer that marked the demise of the dinos!

Was at my local Walmart today. Nada. Not a single box of handgun ammo, centerfire or .22. Zero, zip, absolutely nothing. They do have a big sign which says, optimistically, that due to the "shortage" of ammunition, customers will be limited to six boxes per purchase. As if.

Hank D,

I was trying to make the same point at one time, as to shoot 2" groups at 25 yards with a snubby.

Not really, get real!

It just makes shooting at 7 yards seem so simple after getting your 8" groups, less the flyers at 25y.

So, why did you post this on the Wallmart thread?

Glenn E. Meyer:

Kind of like the Iridium layer that marked the demise of the dinos!

Is that the no lead layer?:D
