The One Rifle

I don't like this game. It makes the contents of my safe upset. One rifle? You are scaring my children!

It wold probably be my Noveske AR or the T/C Encore with lots of barrels answer... That's two rifles already, I told you I don't like this game.

Do I get to keep my one shotgun and my one pistol?

I'd have to go with my deer rifle I guess. Sporterized Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55.

I'm absolutely positive that there's no way I could own just one though, I'm already planning on picking something up at the next gun show if I can find something I like reasonably priced. Thinking maybe a lever gun in something other than 30-30.

It would have to be a .308 bolt.

As "universal" as they come, capable of just about anything I can think of, readily available ammunition, and simplistic design (as opposed to moving parts of an autoloader).

Ruger 10/22
AR-15
Springfield Armory M1A
Garand from the CMP
Some bolt action rifle in 308 Winchester

Those are my "one" rifle.

Different appropriate answers for different people with different needs and wants. A good thought exercise especially if you are trying to keep it simple, be frugal or just don't have the $ for lots of different guns.

I'd say the M1A but that's too much $ for me so I vote mini-30. But lots of other options I'd be fine w too including a bolt action 308.

I just had that bug myself. Started with a .450 Marlin. That didn't work out and I ended up with this Win XTR in .375, probably my favorite lever action I've ever had, beautiful too.

Ok, back on topic. To add to my dream rifle I listed on the first page I would like a nice 5 or 6x scope with a German Post reticle. That would be perfection.

I saw this differently

I was thinking like if you could only keep one that you already own. In that case I would say 30/30. It will do anything and is 100% reliable.

Thanks, Vermonter

One centerfire rifle that can do most of it for me. My older Rem 700, with Stainless Pac-Nor .243 Win barrel, 2.5-10x Nikon.

But...If I can't be with the rifle I love, I love the rifle I'm with!!

Jack O'Conner is SUPPOSED to say .270!
But a Ruger .22 Mag All-Weather bolt would be my second choice...
Now this'll be closed?

A bolt action in .243. Savage, Winchester, Tika, Howa, Ruger, or Remington in that order as far as brand name. It pretty much a do all cartridge for N American game

Pre 64 Winchester Model 70, in .270 Win.

Remember, all the finest custom rifles are built on the Pre 64 Model 70 action.
