Best "bang for the buck" has to be those surplus Star Super B's that so many vendors were selling recently. I paid about $250 for mine OTD and it seemed barely used at all. My FiL liked it so much that he bought one too. That rascal not only found it cheaper, but his was NiB as well! They are very high quality pistols and bargains at those prices.
Clearly, when you get into the surplus/used market, the "best bang" answer will change. The Star B Supers are great guns for the price.

Honestly, the best bang for the buck is probably anything made by Zastava. The M70A, M88, and CZ99 pistols are high quality pistols for a fraction of what a comparable American or Western European brand costs.

Got to shoot my CZ 75 SP01 for the first time today, absolutely awesome! I loved my Canik but I don't regret selling it to get the CZ. Super comfortable in the hand, good trigger, crazy accurate, and very little recoil or flip. It's definitely a confidence-inspiring pistol. The only thing I'm planning on changing is the reset, which could be a little shorter but Cajun Gun Works has a $66 fix for that.

I've never handled a Canik, just my CZ's.

Curious, how would you compare the clone to the real thing? Trigger, fit, finish etc?

The Canik? I'm not sure, I've actually never handled a Walther P99 which is what I believe the Canik was derived from. But for $350 it really impressed me. For a striker fired gun it has a trigger that competes with the best of them, very comparable to a VP9. Never had a single reliability issue out of it other than a limp wrist by an inexperienced shooter I let shoot it.

Finish was acceptable, the tan cerakote wasn't as tough as a well done cerakote job should be but it held up well to drawing and holstering, I think I put a scratch on it when I put it in the same bag as my AR15 (my range gear is lacking).

*Edit- Sorry scoobysnacker, I forgot that Canik made CZ75 clones as well and I think that's what you were talking about. I had the Canik TP9SA, no relation at all to CZ pistols.

Yeah, I was thinking the CZ clone. Seems like they were running about $350 new (Tri Star and I think some were just marked Canik), which is about the price for the used CZ's running on gunbroker right now.

I grabbed one of the CZ's, a pre B, earlier this month. Great gun, plenty of character but shoots sweet. It's my second pre B, and will be my son's.

I carry a HK VP9 and can count on it no matter what. I also like the HK USP9, HK P7 and the Walther P5. I have and do carry any one of them at some time, or another.

I really hate to post after gyvel's last post :D, but i voted for the sig 226 and the cz 75. Both quality guns as I am sure the others are too. I carry the cz because of the Texas heat and all the sweat that it produces. The finish on the cz has not faded and after a quick wipe down still looks brand new. Well, got to go and look at new guns now, Gyvels post is proving correct again.

The Caniks appear to be a little better finished on internals. The machining is nicer, smoother, and more refined. Out of the box, the trigger is a little smoother (still a little grit, but not as much) and the SA is a hair nicer (the casual shooter will not notice it). The safeties are not as nice, a little harder to flick on/off, but they also use a retention ball/spring for positive lock in either position. Also, while springs and sights are available, there isn't quite the aftermarket support for the Caniks as there is for the CZs (though there are a few that are making/modifying Caniks with CGW being the foremost). I've got a P120 and a T100 and had a T120.

The T120 was not to my liking, the alloy frame made it seem toy like to me (too light). It was also the least accurate of the 3 (4-5in at 25yrds)

The T100 is now my daughter's pistol after I did some spring swapping and put it through some rigorous testing. It is the middle child in accuracy (3-4in at 25yrds). It carries well, so I'd expect the same of the C100 overall.

The P120 is nice, but it's no SP01 (which it's supposed to be a clone of). It's nearly as accurate, but the balance is just a hair off (another thing a casual shooter won't notice), and the barrel is not a heavy barrel like the SP01. It's a good stand in for someone that cannot find/afford a SP01, but not a replacement. It was close, but not quite on accuracy (2.0-2.5in at 25yrds vs my SP01's 1.5-2.0in at 25yrds).
