Because for 60 bucks more than a CZ75 you can purchase a Witness Elite. The Witness Elite is a better version of the CZ75. For 100 dollars more you can buy the Witness Stock I.

I own (and like) several variations of both, and for $60.00 less, I'll take the gun made of a better grade of steel (Poldi).

Which ever pistol you buy, out of the box, requires night sights! So add $100.00 or thereabouts!

With my accursed eyes, I am unable to use night sights. Looking dead on at night sights produces nothing but a big black void. In order to see the sights, I have to move my eyes slightly back and forth.

Oh, well, look at the money I save.:D

I have shot many of the guns on your list. I chose my preference, the 92FS. For me, it is the most comfortable and accurate shooting auto loader I have had. Not saying it shoots best for everyone, just me.

Hard to beat a FNS9 for $399
Yep if you shop around you can get a great deal on the FNS guns I got my 40 with nightsights for $414 shipped and they come with 3 mags.

Since you don't have a SR9 on the list I voted FNS for best buy

If you like DAO the Walther PPX looks to be on close out for $299.00 which is a pretty darn good deal.

1. Glock 17 - unsafe
2. HK VP 9 - no idea...good rep
3. FN HERSTAL FNS9 - good feel, probably ok.
4. Sig P226 - just no.
5. Ruger American Pist 9 - no thank you
6. Canik Tp9 v2 - uh no.
7. CZ 75 - pretty nice gun, especially in SAO.
8. Beretta 92FS - puke
Hi-power - a real classic...nice gun..the way jamb intended it
XD/XDM - great guns, accurate, reliable, good grip shape, decent trigger
DW 1911 9mm - how can millions of crusty old white guys be wrong?

If you're thinking best performance and quality for the price, it's hard to get past the CZ's.

Reliable, accurate, and quality materials.

You get reliability from a lot of makers. Where the CZ takes the lead- you get a steel frame for around the price of a Glock.

In comparison, if you wanted a top tier brand with a comparable reputation (Sig or Beretta), and you wanted the steel frame, you're looking at over 4 figure pricing.

Yes, steel is heavier. But it's also more durable, and you have a lot more refinishing options.

Less important during the day...

I've never found night sights to be of any advantage on my range guns! Not everything in my safe is for SD. In fact, only a small percentage is.

Best "bang for the buck" has to be those surplus Star Super B's that so many vendors were selling recently. I paid about $250 for mine OTD and it seemed barely used at all. My FiL liked it so much that he bought one too. That rascal not only found it cheaper, but his was NiB as well! They are very high quality pistols and bargains at those prices.

Hard to find mags for, but they are excellent guns. lots of other surplus 9mms on the market too, I bought a Beretta 92 for $299 not that long ago.

I'd also add that the poll does need a purpose to be defined because if were talking a match ready gun my CZ 75 Tac Sport is a heck of a buy even at it's $1200 price tag as it is much cheaper than most of it's competitors for it's nitch.
