Sons of Guns- BS?

I just watched the episode of Sons-of-Guns where the make the double M-16 for the Navy. I love the show, but that particular episode seemed like a bunch of B.S. Why would the Navy need or want a side by side mounted M-16? Don't they have the SAW and the 249 and even a bunch of old M60's. If they did need one wouldn't they put it out for bid? Was that supposed to be a Navy base the test fired it at? Were those guys supposed to be Spec-Ops ? I don't know, smells fishy. Sorry if this has been discussed already.

Yeah its BS. But its on TV so what do you expect.

They say and act like everything they do has "never been done before".
Like the masterkey.... Done before.. The Suppressed AK.. Done before... etc.

BTW this thread should probably go in general disscussion not in the rifle section.

Did they say what Navy? I could see some 3rd world countries getting pretty stoked about it mounted on their Carolina Skiffs.

Sorry, if someone wants to move it, I wouldn't be offended.

Your right, most of that stuff has been done before. Kel-Tec did a mock-up of that flashlight/folding gun thing a while back. They showed it off at the Shot-show, and it looked a lot better than the one Red Jacket came up with. Also, people have been doing that shotgun/ m-16 thing for years. They had one in the movie "Predator" for cryin out loud.

Its pretty goofy. I remember the show with the M16 mounted in a plastic turret on top of a Chevy Suburban and operated by an actual PlayStation video game controller. That was pretty Rube Goldberg.

The dual M16 show was the first show I've seen. Watched it last night.

These were my first thoughts too. Why would you spend the time and money to make a M16 withstand that kind of abuse full auto. It's not made for that. Short burst are great but it's not made for sustained full auto. Why? Because it shoots from the closed bolt position. Dual 249 SAW's or dual 240G's would make a heck of a lot more sense. Cooling it with water? Come on really? I'll probably give it some more chances in hopes for better shows. I can't help it, I love guns. I believe they will need to get real creative though, to keep this show afloat. I'm curious about what they will come up with next.

It beats watching another episode of House Hunters International.

Besides, they're Louisiana boys who happen to like Saigas and have learned to make a living from it.

The daughter is fun to watch. It sure beats watching Mike Holmes knock all the sheetrock out of a house.

i agree with all the criticisms but it sure is nice to have some pro gun folks on the line up of a major network. most of the stuff they build is odd and is usually a jv version of things that are already available but that is most likely because they cant show them building suppressors and semi-custom ak's all day long, most of the fault probably lies with the producers who tell them what to do for tv to keep people who arent necessarily gun owners interested.

I agree with this. A pro gun show is a good show. :D

Edit: That is as long as they don't make pro gun people look like idiots.

Just like Antony Bourdain visiting Ted Nugent, nothing better than a liberal New Yorker shooting an M60 from the hip and admitting to a "strangely satisfied feeling".

One crazy thought about the dual M-16 water-cooled thing....

What was the price they were quoting? $1,800 for the setup? Or was is $3,500? Can't remember. But I remember thinking it was a pretty reasonable price. Anyone know how that would compare to dual SAW's?

Saw one episode. They chopped up a M1919 so a Cop could shoot watermellons faster than his buds.

I was not impressed with the lack of apparent intrinsic understanding of firearm design. The guys are simply back yard mechanics, monkey see, monkey do.

The show must appeal to someone.

I'm sure they took a loss on the weapons. They are making money from the show. Have you ever seen Orange County Choppers? They give away these incredible fabrications. Also Extreme 4X4, Known for giving away fabricated rigs.

Not sure what they could have done, as far as cost, with a pair of M249's mounted. But I would bet it's far less then what any other shop would be able to do for you.

Yeah, the cop looked like the black guy on Reno 911. It was really rediculous. BTW, how could someone on a cop's salary afford such a thing?
