Grips aside, the logo stamped on the frame is not S&W. It appears to be a Spanish copy of some type. This is the Serial Number on the grip of the gun, and the barrel has something on it but I can´t read it.
Ill attach the Branding mark on the next post.
Model 1917 serial numbers ran from 1 in sep. 1917 to 163600 in Jan. 1919.DA45 (M1917) SN 68xx
Highway Patrolman SN 251xx
Please and thank you!
Is it a modern swing out cylinder or old tip down barrel to load. Is the chambering on the barrel 38 S&W or 38 S&W Special? Is it a 5 or 6 shot?I have a small S&W .38 that I inherited. I know it’s old, but don’t know how old. The numbers on the but of the grip are 50197.
Thanks in advance for any info.
SN 134913 on a 6 shot 38 M&P would make it a Model of 1905 2nd Change. Serial numbers ran from 73521 in 1906 to 146899 in 1909.I recently acquired a Smith & Wesson law enforcement and military 38 caliber revolver. The serial number is 134913 any information would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, then it's either a .38 Regulation Police (pre-war) or .38/32 Terrier (pre-war)Yes, swing out cylinder. .38 S&W (not special). 5 shot

The Regulation Police will have a square butt and the Terrier a round butt. See pic.
Serial numbers for the Regulation Police ran from 1 in 1917 to 54474 in 1940.
Serial numbers for the Terrier ran from 38976 in 1936 to the same 54474 in 1940.
Either way, it looks like your gun would be in the 1938 to 1940 range.
