S&W "Something big coming April 12th 2012"

MSRP is $450

On Rugers site, the LC9 is around that and retails for $350~$390

M&P9c says $609 or so and is what $550ish?

I bet its around $380~$400 to compete with other slim-line 9mm's

Texted my dealer this morning and told him I wanted one, he said it might take 6 months. Just stopped by his shop, and the distributor told him the same thing one of the prevuious posters said. They will be shipped this week, and I may have mine on Monday. Not THAT much smaller than my M&P9C, but I want it. S&W has already bonded with DeSantis for holsters.

Thank you MontyCop; that's exactly what I was going to find out if it wasn't on this thread... my take is that this will compete more with the LC9 than the PM9/CMP based on these specs... those that want a truly itty-bitty gun will stay with the Kahr, and those who want an almost-itty-bitty will give it a try. I'll definitely shoot one if I get the chance...

From what I've read, it looks like the price point will be sub $400 mark which is reasonable...The first sale they have on one for around $300 and I think I'd be all over it! :)

First: yawwwwwnnnn.....another poly single-stack.....

Second: About time....S&W needed a good follow-up to the 39XX-series pistols for a long time. This one looks like it will do nicely....

I wonder if S&W might restart the LadySmith line with these guns.....

The real innovative thing S&W did with the Shield was to actually make enough of them to ship prior to announcing the gun... unlike Springfield Armory
Actually, that should read, "unlike most of the firearms industry." Ruger would be the one other exception.

We actually got several of these in. They sold out almost instantly, and with good reason. It's very much a single-stack M&P compact. The stainless internal chassis and lockwork appear to be indentical, and the trigger is as good as the one on the M&P.

I cajoled one guy into letting me shoot his, and I was pleasantly surprised. Recoil was surprisingly mild, and though the grip is too think for my hands, I had no trouble carving out a 2" bullseye at 7 yards with it.

I may have made a crass and dismissive remark about pocket guns earlier, but nobody gets to point that out. New rule or something ;)

The Smith, by a wide margin. The trigger on the LC9 is wretched, the grip profile bites into the webbing between thumb and forefinger of my strong hand, and I've seen some reliability issues.

On the other hand, the Smith has a good trigger, better ergonomics (though no interchangeable backstraps), and good sights. The poor guy who let me shoot his actually got to witness a ~300 round torture test while it got passed around to everybody, and it didn't miss a beat.

It's only $50 more than the LC9, and I think it's a superior gun. I've no use for it, but within its niche, I think it's the best thing going.

thanks Tom for the quickie...that's enough for me to pull the trigger. about the backstraps I was wondering if interchangeable ones would even make a difference at that size when I looked at the leaked pics...that got taken care of.

guys what's amazing about this pistol is how composed it is in the videos....the tracking and recoil management speaks A TON on how the entire package is engineered and works together

also could we merge the two threads

This is a good move by Smith & Wesson. If this had been available a year and a half ago I would bought one instead of my Kahr K40. Since I am totally satisfied with my Kahr, I won't be changing.

Tom, you said, "and though the grip is too think for my hands . . . ." Is that thick or thin? I'm not likely to actually handle one for awhile.

I just saw one of these new S&W on Backpage for sale last night. The guy was asking $600 for it...

I'm sure he bought it with the intent of making money on it... I guess you can't blame a guy for trying. He had all kinds of verbiage about it being the only one you will be able to find.

Thanks I would rather wait or buy something a little more reeasonably priced...
