Road Trip Carry Gun? What's yours?

Kimber Pro Carry II and S&W 642 and two reloads for each. One or both depending on how tight my pants are that day.

You sure do ask a lot of questions.

Carry a gun? What? Are you crazy?

This is what I tell folks that ask me about carrying a gun.

Constantine, sticks out of where? On a long road trip, mine is in the truck door pocket. But I also wear my CCW either in my pocket or on my hip. so I actually have 2 guns in the truck while on trips.

It's what I carry everyday, so...

My Glock 26 with the +2 mag extensions on both mags, plus a G19 15 rd. mag w/ grip sleeve. I also throw in my p3at & its spare mag. Anymore than that, I'd probably have to haul a mobile armory that rivals the size of a tank! Thinking about adding a small .38 revolver to the mix, any suggestions?

FEG PA-63 usually. It's accurate, reliable, and will get the job done. If it ends up getting held for evidence in the event it's used, it's not a big deal.

All the Best,
D. White

Long road trip, I tend to go full size.

In the glove box, I go with something that can't go off just by pulling the trigger, e.g. HK P7, Browning Hi-Power, Colt 1911.

Somewhere else, I usually have XD45, Glock 22, or Sig P229.

Most frequently, I tote around my S&W 642.

I don't carry around any long guns, e.g. AR or AK, because I have a family and do not really have the room. I figure that if I end up in or near a situation that requires that kind of firepower, I am already screwed or I just need to be getting the hell out of there if at all possible.

Amin, really? I'm going to look into those. And an IWB and OWB holster for the high-power.

Thank you!!!! They let me shoot it yesterday! Into a barrel, 16 rounds. Double taps and rapid fire and trigger reset is SO much smoother. Can't wait to pick it up already. Post a slew of pics and what not.

Oh. So you have 2. So I'm guessing one smaller one too? To wear on your person.

At 1:00 the XD shows. And at 4:00 it shows. Only when I wear button ups does it not. My "big shirts" don't even cut it.

markj...you need friends.

Sgt Pepper, I like all your choices a lot and sense. However I wouldn't carry or transport an assault rifle as my main means if self defense lol.

I'm with you and several others on the full size in all other occasions.

markj...you need friends.

Um, I think the one needs a friend may be you sir :) but keep on asking them questions, there is no stupid question, just dumb answers....

I will be sure to mention these threads to my friends, they farm and do not use PCs. We all get together for pizza at Dennys, it will get a laff but the questions are good ones.

Some questions are best asked in person than on a public forum IMHO.

Gun? What gun? Who has a gun? Never let em know whats really going on, so only you know. Knowledge is power! :) or sumpting like that.

NEWS FLASH: The Firing Line

Meaning, this is a GUN forum.

You wanna talk ethics and hiding in closets I'm sure there is an Oprah, Oxygen, or Lifetime forum or sumtyn' like that.

Leave us gunners alone? :D

Question of curiosity and getting ideas. Yet AGAIN you follow ANOTHER thread of mine to complain about what I'm asking or saying. It's getting kind of old and you throw things off topic just to whine.

Whatever is up in the rotation.

  • BHP
  • Dan Wesson CBOB
  • Colt CCO
  • Kahr PW9
  • S&W 642

Just drooled a bit by the way. Thanks.

Thank you everyone who is answering! Minus one...like always..same one.

WVsig...do you also carry the one you have with you in the car? Like rest stops and such?

When I am on a road trip I simply carry a gun in my normal holster. I wear that holster while I drive. For me it is the safest and most secure place to house the firearm and it is always at the ready. Additional mags are kept in the center console or other storage area. I rarely if ever use the glove box. I find its too far to reach over and in at least one of my cars the glove box sticks.... LOL

I have taken a few long road trips where my permit did not allow me to carry because the state I am traveling through did not grant reciprocity. MD comes to mind... At that point I would simply remove the gun from the holster. Remove the ammo and place the pistol alone in a locked case in the trunk.

Just drooled a bit by the way. Thanks

Thanks... I have a very humble collection. I used to carry a P228 and P245 more but these days the Sigs don't make it out as much.

I ride cross country on my motorcycle longest trip 2 weeks and always travel solo.So I always pack something depending on what area of the country I am in. Riding and camping in bear country S&W 629 44 Mag,riding and camping in higher human population Glock 23

Well. I made this thread. I'm on a 2 day vacation. Come back tomorrow night. Just got back to the hotel. There's my setup right now. The little buddy.

What do you guys carry when you go on a road trip for a few days?

Don't get it!!! Am I missing something? What's the difference?
What I carry every day.
Warm weather, light clothing = Elsie Pea.
More concealable clothing = Springer XD40 Sub.
On any given trip I might have both, one locked in a safebox in the truck, and one on me so I can switch if needed.

If I were to take a gun with me on a road trip (not confirming or denying the practice of such) it would be a XD9 in a IWB holster. Unless, I was going into some not so nice areas. Then, It would be in a holster tucked under the wife's thigh or wedged in between the bucket seats for easier access.
