My ugly duck car gun. (it's not a stay in the car all the time car gun, just the gun that goes when I know it has to stay in the car...)

It's a crime-bill era Ruger P95-D. They don't get a whole heckuva lot uglier. Black, kinda plum colored on the slide. Bicycle innertube for a rubber "grip" because the original grip on these older P-95's are slicker as they come than if it would have been carved from a bar of soap and carried in the shower.

It's got a Mec-Gar 17 rounder in it, not the silly plastic-base Ruger crime-bill 10-rounder.

The mag is stuffed with Hornady Critical Defense.

I went out and shot through a few cylinders of .22wmr around dusk. I'm trying to get the hang of "combat focus" shooting. It is different than how I was trained.

So, I've got my freshly cleaned Heritage Rough Rider sitting less than three feet away, again.

It's stoked with Federal 9BP hollow points.

The closest gun I have "at hand" is a Magnum Research Desert Eagle 1911G...on the end table next to the chair I'm sitting in. But, it's unloaded. I got it out of the safe in preparation for a possible trip to the range tomorrow.

The closest loaded gun is a 1992 vintage Taurus Model 85 .38 snub that's tucked under a pillow in my bedroom. It's loaded with PMC Starfire +P 125 grain JHP's.

The question is open though this is the handgun forum. To keep in context with the forum I will first state that I do not use a handgun for SD as I do not want any of them rotting in the evidence locker. Therefore, I reach for the Mossberg 500 with 00 and slugs.
