A pocket gun is not going to be very effective if you have to use it to defend yourself.
The minimum self-defense round should be a 9mm IMO.

i agree with florida guy, i carry a kahr cw9 loaded with speer 115gr gold dots to make sure i have enough stoping power

Yes...and no.

I agree that if you have to fire the gun, pocket guns are not very effective.

However, researchers like Gary Kleck feel that in the vast majority of times that a handgun is used for self defense, NO shots are fired. With that in mind. a .380 is just as good as a 9mm and a lot better than the .45 left at home in the safe.

I know I am guilty of this approach too. If I can't carry a .357/40SW/.45, I don't carry at all. That's poor thinking on my part, a .32 or .380 is better than nothing.

No doubt, pocket auto

Sub compact XDs, Glocks and what not are still very thick and the slides are still long. The revolvers are always thick too. The easiest to conceal as a pocket gun is a gun like LCP, TCP, Kel Tec. Trying to sell a Beretta to get a TCP myself. The Beretta is considered a sub compact I think, but it is no less concealable then my full size XD.

My thoughts

I took my little K-T .380 out in the back yard the other day (I live in a rural area) and put 2 clips of Allegiance Arms .380 auto through it. I thought the darn thing was going to fly out of my hand & hit me in the forehead, due to the recoil being so rough! I'll be taking it to the gun show next weekend to sell it and hopefully pick up a P11 or a snubnose revolver. The P11 was my first gun. I bought it shortly after my 21st birthday as a nice little gift to myself, my dad bought it, and now it's his edc. Ever since I've been trying to find another one.:(:o:)

Pocket Carry

Very rare that I pocket carry because I build my own iwb holsters, but I have worn the pf9 in my pocket from time to time

I currently own a S&W 442 for pocket carry, but would like to when funds allow it pick up a small semi auto for pocket carry like a Kahr pm9, or possibly ruger lcp, actually I've been seriously looking at the new ruger lc9, doing some research, hopefully I will have a chance to rent one in the near future.

Found it!

I found the perfect pocket gun yesterday. It's a S&W Bodyguard .38 Special, rated for +P. I predict it'll see more use as my EDC than my G26 does now. Prrice was 442.92, NIB so I put it on layaway, can't wait to get it paid off!:D:D:D

Is it a Bodguard style revolver (Model: 638) or the bodyguard with the laser (Model: BODYGUARD 38)?

I don't have it yet but I plan to pocket carry a Taurus TCP. I like the trigger a lot better then the LCP and it's about the same size. Had I the money I would likely get the P238. But, alas I don't have that kind of dough. I have pocket carried my compact XD (not subcompact). It's just too bulky and I can only do it with a couple pairs of pants. Most the time it is IWB in a tuckable holster. I don't know that I would ever try to pocket carry a revolver due to it's width.

Reply to mesinge2

Mesinge2, it is the Bodyguard with the integrated laser. I can't wait to get it paid off, as I have a feeling I'll be carrying it more than my Glock 26! I already love the way it feels in my hand. I'm leaning towards pocket carry and occasional ankle carry, might even try a left-handed iwb holster made by JBP.

Glockfan35, post a link to a range report after you get to shoot it. I have been very interested in one of those. :)

This is the exact reason I don't own pocket guns.

This way I won't even be tempted to step out the door with a 5-shot or .380. I also like to have a gun I can shoot at distance with.

The average self defense shooting may be less than 7yds, but I don't train for 'average'.

I have owned two Glocks and four K-Ts, at least a half dozen snubs in various frame materials and several chamberings. All are gone, and none are missed.

I pocket carried a Kahr PM9 for about 3 1/2 years. Transitioned to a Kahr P45 IWB about two years ago.

I can't bring myself to sell the PM9, because in the last couple years, I have found a day or two when it was perfect. I also own an LCP, but don't have enough faith in the caliber to carry it. My problem, not the gun's.

"Pocket" is my usual mode of carry; LCP, snubbie and now LC9. However, the LC9 is moving me into a belt mode too.

CIA650 .357 magnum 2" and also saturday night special .38 cobra derringer as a backup. I can draw real quick from my pocket. I should know; I practice now and again + rattle the tree out back. if something goes down most wouldn't even think for a minute I had a 357 in my pocket. I have a S&W649 2 1/8" too, but I guess I notice the extra 1/8" or mainly I just grew accustomed to my first CCW.

I disagree. I do agree with more power than some(the 2nd part), but not every pocket carry is a mousegun or smaller caliber.
