Anyone have a lot of experience with the S&W .380 bodyguard?

I'm mainly interested in the reliability and maintenance.

Also Mesinge, How do you like your P238? Looks like a really sweet pocket pistol, but would like to know what you think of it.

I'm also interested in Kel-tec p3at if anyone has anything to say on that.

I am not sure that I would be comfortable with the idea of a cocked and locked pocket pistol, even in a pocket holster. YMMV.

In general, I've heard a lot of issues with the P238 which isn't surprising since it is basically a rebirth of the Colt Mustang which was always problematic.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to the gun store today to just LOOK, haha. I'm going to be looking at the walther ppk, kel-tec p3at, s&w bodyguard, the Ruger LCP and LC9. I'm not going to buy anything, I'm not going to buy anything...

Kodyo, I really like my 238 and I do pocket carry it. The safety is quite stiff and requires a deliberate action to disengage.

SIG P238 is my choice

+1 for P238. I pocket carry every day. It is an awesome gun. Very stiff safety, great trigger, very accurate. It also has great night sights. I have owned P3AT and fired LCP and Kahr P380. There is no comparison on accuracy and shootability IMHO. Small caliber demands greater accuracy and the P238 is second to none...:D. Also, the new ones seem to be problem free. Mine was produced last October and has almost 500 flawless rounds will about 6 different types of ammo.

You forgot a choice for all the above. I have a Seecamp and a LC9 pluss a couple snubs that are regularly pocket carried. I also have a Beretta Tomcat and a couple derringers that get carried as backups on special occasion.

I've got a keltec p11 and a s&w 640 2" j-frame 357, both of which work pretty well for pocket carry.

As for the p11:
With the alternate factory mag I can get 12+1 9mm, and with the grip extension on the mag it's quite comfy. One jam in 200 rds, and that was a friend (first time shoooter), probably limp-wristing. I love my p11, and for $230 NIB it's damn hard to beat. But for me, it is about as large a gun as I am willing to pocket carry.

EDIT: and always in a pocket holster that fits the gun well. But my preferred carry is IWB, for either gun.

Walther PPK.....

but that was not an option. However, when I "pocket carry" that pocket pistol is just as likely to be in a tiny IWB holster as I find the shifting/flopping around of it in a pocket annoying and sometimes a giveaway I am carrying. I really only "drop it in a pocket" if I am running outside, or briefly into a store, or just forget the IWB holster.

I carry a P3AT regularly in my front pocket whether I have my G26/CBST with me or not. I hope everyone that is carrying in their pocket ONLY realizes how slow it is to get their gun out and fire a round. We simulated an attack from 21' away at my last CHL renewal and it wasn't even close. Pocket carry lost every time. With that being said, I still choose to have it than not. Situational awareness becomes an even bigger part of the equation with pocket carry.

Now try it seated....
in a car....
with a winter coat....
and a seat belt...:(

unless your hand is in your pocket with the grip already at hand then it rivals that of competition holsters which is why.

it's really quite easy in the car as Kansas allows you to arm and disarm in the car so once you get in the car the gun comes out of the pocket and is slid right between the seat by my leg.

That is if there isn't already one there.:D

Yeah it's should rarely be the 'only' one you have. It's a final backup, a hair above the knife and broken bottles. As weather gets cooler and you can hide more, DO SO. And have better options close by even when you are down to a pocket gun.

Ah! There you go, some sensible laws

In Ohio it either has to be in a holster on your person, or in a closed container with a latch (glove box and center console qualify).

I don't shoot my Smith 637 well enough to trust my life to it, my EDC is a Kahr PM9, which I shoot very well at SD distances (out to 10 yards or so).

My current pocket carry is a Ruger LCR 357. I also have a 22 mag NAA 1 5/8 barrel in the door pocket of the truck. I can switch between the 2 depending on carry limits and locations. I plan on buying a Ruger LC9 for pocket carry later this year and will replace the NAA with my LCR as a truck gun.
