PING: 10mm Fans...

I own three 10mm pistols- Glock 20 & 29; and a Sig P220.

If I could only have one of them, it would be the Glock 29 hands down. It is a versatile gun. I carry it while backpacking, hiking, hunting, and it is my preferred CCW during the colder months.

I load all of my own 10mm ammo, and I have had great results through the 29. My 135gr Nosler jhp loads are just shy of 1500 fps, and my 180gr Speer Gold Dot loads are 1200 fps. The 165gr Speer Gold Dot chrono'd at 1350 fps.

That to me is what makes the 29 so appealing; it's size, and the wide variety of ammunition that the G29 can shoot with 100% reliability.

It's size allows it to be carried and used for a variety uses. The range of bullet weights available in 10mm, especially to reloaders, allows for many choices to suite your needs- from 135gr, 155gr, 165gr, and 180gr for self defense; and 180gr-220gr for carry in the woods.

Idaho... aside from the G29 being more convenient to carry (because it is smaller than the G20), is the G20 more comfortable in handling hot loads than the G29?

I ask because I have a G29, but don't enjoy the caliber all that much and I'm wondering if I might enjoy shooting 10mm more if I swapped my G29 for a G20? The smaller form factor of the G29 isn't of any particular importance to me.

Tough to answer. Delta is classy, spiffy and drips & oozes of 10mm history but is simply a BAD idea for full-nuts 10mm.

I am a big time S&W 1-2-3rd Gen addict, too many to list and I have owned my 1006 since 1996, but I doesn't seem to "move" me these days. Definitely not a bad choice, for sure.

Carried a Gen3 MML-prefix G29 for nearly 7yrs, IWB all the time. Rock solid and always always always does what I ask... but I can't envision many uglier guns and even 6,600 rds in and I still hate the Glock hump in my hand. Maybe a Glock 40 with a grip reduction?

The Dan Wesson may be the finest answer for a 10mm 1911, I don't know. But I couldn't take in a Sig or a Kimber.

I am a 10mm nut. I have and shoot Colts, Witnesses,
an Auto Ordnance, Glocks, Javalinas and S&W 610s.
My favorite to shoot is the 6 inch 610. My favorite for
carry is the Glock 29. It's nice to have choices.:D

Everyone loves their 15+1 Glock 20s... hell, my S&W can do that. [emoji41]

For you guys who have both: I would think that the G20 would be softer shooting than the G29; is it? Or is there really not much difference in felt recoil between the two?

I'm just not enjoying my G29 that much and wondering if I might appreciate a softer shooting G20 more?

I find a substantial difference between the G20 and 29 and it depends on the ammo being used of course. I don't particularly like shooting my 29 but still carry it some I just don't shoot it much at the range. I shot a box of 50 thru my 20 last week-end and no problem. My 2 cents your mileage may vary!

Well since i currently have a S&W 1076, a S&W 610, a Delta Elite comp gun, a DW pointman 7 and a Ruger Buckeye in 10mm and am gonna have to get down to one. I'm gonna sell all 5 and with the funds I'll build the perfect 10 start with a STI frame, a commander length slide and use a custom contoured 3/4" compensator to get a nice standard 5" govt profile finish the build with Brown or Wilson FCG something 3-3.5# on the trigger, then let's send it to Robar.

Thanks. I've been circling around the idea of a G20 Gen 4 for a while. I'm edging closer to picking one up now. I need to get my G29 back to the range to refresh my experience with it - it's been a few years!

If my S&W 1006 and 1076 weren't essentially collector items - or on the verge of being - due to their age and lack of readily-available critical parts, I'd be packing one or the other as my "winter-carry" 10mm.

For practical EDC (concealed), it's my Glock 29. It combines the best matrix of factors regarding capacity, weight, and concealability for all-day portability.

Screwball: excellent grab on that very rare S&W 15-rd 10mm single stage. Congrats.

Glock 20 for me. Still carry-able and a solid, hi cap, dependable woods good. Toss in a longer barrel and it is good enough for hunting as well.

If I could only have one.

WOW, I didn't even consider choosing a wheel gun...I could kill two birds with one stone with the 610. I've been wanting to add a revolver to the collection to replace my 581 that I sold when times got tough.

G40MOS, if you plan on hunting at all.

Currently have a G20SF w/ 9" Lone Wolf barrel,
but that 9" barrel would look far better in a G40 Longslide ;)

I'll always take a S&W 10xx series...
or a Star Megastar...

Previously owned a Colt Delta Elite...
traded it for a Desert Eagle .50AE back in the 90's :)
felt recoil kinda sucked, even with the wrap-around Pachy grips.
Both Glock & the Deagle soak it far better.

That's the bottom line, you buy a CDE for looks,
you buy the Glock & S&W 10xx series for shootability,
the Star Megastar because it's sexy as hell and soft shooting :D

* * * the Star Megastar because it's sexy as hell and soft shooting

I always thought the 10mm MegaStar had that alien/space gun look. Really out there, but I also liked that it didn't look like everyone else's 10mm Glock or Delta Elite, so I was good with it. Never could snag one though.
