Own a S&W 1911 .45 and it is my favorite to shoot. It's got lots of raw power, yet very controllable. It's a big gun, but then again, I like big guns.

S&W certainly is not perfect, but they do make quality firearms for the most part.

I think I could sink a small boat with my S&W pistols, but I will never buy a new S&W until the ILS is history. S&W has turned their product into junk I will never buy again. There are too many good used S&W revolvers out there to waste my time with this Hilary inspired junque.:)

I have very little use for the current S&Ws (the company or their products)... but I still own a few older models that have served me well.

A gun maker is anti gun????

I'm sure that some are. A gun maker who makes multiple millions of dollars making his patented type of gun may very well be anti-every other gun, if they start making inroads into his profit.

Back when cops carried wheel guns (myself included) they were Queen. I say this because Colt was King! These days, they are pretty much the same although not as well made as in the seventies'. Had Colt stayed in the game, Smith would be selling apples on a street corner. As it turns out, I have a 642-P and a 640 on order with a 340 on projection.

The down side is that in order to have a nice Smith, you really need to start with a steel variant and then have it super-tuned by a real gunsmith. Otherwise, simply buy the 340 as your light and reliable EDC (minus mag loads) and call it done. Oh yeah, I.M.H.O of course ~
Regards,

I have two Smiths, a 3 inch barrel 65 and a 4 inch barrel 29 in nickel finish, while not as small and light as my Colt Cobra they're still perfect for what I bought them for

You forgot own a bunch of S&W's love them & still have them

I'm with Mike Irwin. The REAL Smith & Wesson went out of business in 2000.

What you have now is a company of non shooters, peddling crap laser etched with a famous logo.

I have 28 real S&W's from before 2000, when S&W still made good looking reliable handguns. Regards 18DAI.

I had a smith 19-3 4" that I gave to my father after acquiring a gp100. I really liked it but my opinion of new smiths is that they are to danged expensive to find their way into my gunsafe.

I started out with a 1974 Model 28 as a LEO. Then I moved into a model 19. Today, I have a 642-P and I have to say it’s not my favorite. I guess I’m just not so keen on the Smith’ alloy variants, so I ordered a 640. I suppose at some point I’ll find that preferred package but I haven’t found it yet.
Regards, :o

I own a number of SWs, some old, some new, some in between. While the new workmanship might not reach the levels of the older models, (what does?) Smith & Wesson is still, imo,. the best revolver manufacturer in the US. And, their customer service is second to none.

LIke smith, older ones even more so. Some of the new guns are good enough I am going to buy and disable the lock... much as I will still be annoyed by that hole in the frame.

The CURRENT smith wesson still claims all the heritage of a Hundred plus years, but wants to distance themselves from the anti gun past! Huh sounds a little cynacial! !:D:D:D

I trust my life everyday to my 642 even though it has the ILS and strong recoil ;)

I used to love S&W, owned many 4 and 5 screw revolvers, 3rd generation 40's and 9's as well as a couple customs. As of late I will not buy another, the last 2 semi's I bought were garbage. I bought a NIB S&W SW99 in 45acp, took it home and shot about 150 rounds. Shot well but when I took it apart to clean it I found metal shavings ( I had cleaned and lubed it before firing ) I saw the recoil spring was 20% gone, flat spotted from barrel contact.

I brought it to the gunshop and he asked me what I preferred, money back or send it back, I had then send it back. I picked it back up at the shop unopened so I had the manager ( a good friend ) open it, no note nothing. He took it apart and all we saw was a new recoil spring. I took it home and shot 100 rounds, took it apart and full of metal and the recoil spring is flat spotted again. Brought it back and got a refund. All I can think is when Walther made the P99 it never came in 45acp, when S&W started making the uppers they made it in 45acp. I have to think perhaps there isn't enough room in the slide for the larger bore or the recoil spring is too large.

I bought a M&P 9mm full size, got it home, cleaned and lubed it and went out back to my range. 2 out of 5 and sometimes 3 in a row were FTE's. After well over 50 rounds of varios ammo I gave up. I shipped it back to S&W, they polished the chamber (full of tool marks ) and replaced the extractor. I got the gun back and fired about 500 rounds of various ammo and the gun would not group, some 25 yard benchrest groups were a foot for 5 shots.

I took the gun back in and examined it, the bore has massive toll marks, sent it back to S&W again. I got it back with a new barrel, the gun was now reliable but found after about 200+ rounds of various ammo the accuracy was marginal ( average 5-6 inch groups ) compared to my other guns.I started reading posts on Smith-Wessonforum and M&P forum and find that many are having the FTE's and other problems as well as 2 police dept's removing M&P series from their approved list, I ended up trading it for a XD 9 and never looked back. This M&P wiped out my supply of 9mm ammo:(

I have owned 6 Taurus guns, 4 semi's and 2 revolvers and never had a functional problem, still own some. I do note that some people have had problems with Taurus and their customer service leave's much to be desired. At one time I was a S&W junkie, I am very sad to see these issues at S&W, its like your favorite son going bad.

Yes

I have owned or presently own at least 8-10 Smith and Wessons. Aside from problems with a PPS (Walther/SW), I have never had any issues with a Smith and Wesson pistol or revolver.

Don't care for the internal locks, Don't want to pay the extra money over a Ruger; but wouldn't say that I dislike them.

Currently a proud Dan Wesson owner... it's kind of like a model 19.
