I have owned 3 S&W's in my life & still own 2 of them ... they are great guns and this survey shows consideribly different results vs. the Taurus survey.

"The reason i wanted to sort of repost the same question, is because nearly 1/3 of the voters have a generally negative view of Taurus. I'm curious if this ratio is comparable to some other major manufacturer (I picked S&W, though I could've gone with Glock, Ruger, or some other)."

I have 11 S&W revolvers. The newest one is 26 years old, except for one. That one is a small snubbie the wife carries - once in a while.

Frankly, I would not give 10 cents for another new Smith revolver.

However, I do like my SW40GVE. It works every time, it's light, and I've (finally) got the trigger the way I like it.

I have owned 5 SW's in my brief shooting career

1911 DK...great pistol, accurate enough for me. never failed. sold as i consolidated calibers

m&p 45...ran smoothly, a couple hiccups in break in but they could have been user related. sold to consolidate calibers

m&p 9c. CT grips..bought to replace my glock19 as a carry piece. 2900 flawless thru it. i trust my life to this gun

m&p 9...burwell trigger. smooth as silk. 1500 flawless thru so far. ez shooter, accurate reliable (so far)

642 w ct...wish i still had this, lightweight, easy to carry. sold during consolidation but i would take it back in a second

have yet to have an issue but look around, many good things to be said about S&W's cs

"A lot of the S&W haters cite their going along with anti-gun legislation in the 90s."

Two things wrong with that statement...

It was 2000, and it wasn't legislation. It was complicity with an end run around the legislative process.

At least Ruger worked inside the Constitutional process, not outside of it.

And the problem with the agreement? It's not dead, it's dormant. The Government can resurrect it at any point in the future that it deems it expedient to do so, and S&W's only options are to either start living up to their end of the legally binding agreement or enter the legal process via the Federal courts.

IF you want some good Info on This debate over Smiths sell out go to one of the best pro gun websites JPFO and look under the slogan Smith Wesson must Die! It has a great statement to go along with The debate Mike Irwin started! The statement was said by A CEO of smith and Wesson! It goes "are customers are a little crazy now,but they will be back" So they basically don't care! I also agree that the .40 sw should be from here on out be called the .40 liberty! NEVER AGAIN

Recoil Junkie--
I'm not sure what you are trying to say...and until you can spell, punctuate and construct a sentence, you should hang out in your man-cave and get up to the sixth grade level of education. Then post again.

To the OP--
--Yeah, the poll still says "Taurus".
--No provision to differentiate between S&W revolvers and S&W pistols.
--No option that says "I own multiple S&Ws and will buy more in the future". That's the one I'd have selected (if that option were available)
Next time, take an extra 30 seconds and do it right...unless you are just looking for a "FirePower!" type flame-fest.

Geeze, does anybody get this?

Currently own 2. Have owned 7 more and all have been accurate with exceptional triggers out of the box. The three 41 Mags have been superb in every way. The 29s didn't digest the loads that my SBH could, but they were more accurate.

None of my S&W pistols are new; wouldn't have one of the current crop; much prefer the older ones.

Had 2 S&W autos, model 59 and 61. Got rid of both pretty quickly. Much prefer their wheelguns.

Who needs anti-gunners...
Lets just put another american manufactuer out of business ourselves.

Jim

Whats so American about Smith and Wesson Its Ideals of selling out! Is this a bad case of rectum eyesight! It not hard to see Smith Sold out america! For god sakes this isn't american ideals seriously! What has Smith Done to rectify the situation? NOTHING WOW! The bill they signed is setting there waiting to come back face it SMITH SOLD OUT

It's called divide and conquer.
BTW, if you were to do a little research you would find that Bill Ruger was against concealed carry weapons and did not feel that people had a right to use handguns for personal defense.
Colt all but dropped the civilian firearms market.
Do we go after them too....

I think you have to be a least 16 to post here...or, if under 16, at least be able to pass for 16...
Not doing so well, so far...maybe you'd do better over on GlockTalk.

S&W pistols:

:) I love the Smith and Wesson revolvers.

 However, do NOT like any of their models with internal locking mechanisims. They are useless if you need to use your gun in a fast manner or emergency, (or forget to unlock it first). Would rather use my brain instead of the lock on the pistol. Just my opinion!

I see with clear eyes, smith has no place in america!!! I have helped succesfully keep many people from buying a smith! And i feel great!!!!!!

Free america

I'm not a fan of the locks either but other manufactuers are using internal locks also. Ruger has started putting internal locks on some of their newer revolvers also. They are under the grip vs. on the sideplate.

As far as I'm concerned, they went out of business in March 2000
.
I agree, and it pains me, as I love their products. I'll buy any pre-2k Smith, but not now.

Lets just put another american manufactuer out of business ourselves.
If they go out of business, someone will take their place, like, I don't know, SIG, Kahr, Kel Tec, or any other manufacturer that makes guns here in the U.S. That is capitalism at its best. The old, moribund, non-competitive, or objectionable dies; someone new steps up to take their place. Smith sucks, I'll give my cash to someone who wants it.

BTW, if you were to do a little research you would find that Bill Ruger was against concealed carry weapons and did not feel that people had a right to use handguns for personal defense.
Colt all but dropped the civilian firearms market.
So what if Bill Ruger was against CCWs. Did he side with the political enemy and become a leader in the fight against our rights? Did he give the opponents of ownership legal, intellectual, and moral ammunition to use against us? The answer is no. Whatever his personal beliefs, he didn't try to join with the political enemy.

As for Colt, again, so what? That is a strategic business decision. That's like saying TFL is going to get rid of the miscellanious non-firearm related forums. That's a business decision that has little to do with politics.

Blindly sticking with Smith and Wesson is like a form of Battered Wife syndrome. It makes no sense, If I leave, they won't be there. Let the market decide. I choose not to purchase new Smith and Wesson products now.

Recoiljunkie44-

Your posts are showing neither.

Smith is a great company. I don't like any of them that are mim/lock versions, but the company is still trying to give shooters of all walks of life, exactly what they are asking for.

If you have kept people from buying a Smith & wesson because of some personal bias, or ignorance on your part, you have done them a huge disservice.

Eat your milk and cookies, and go to bed.

The current S&W company did not side with the enemy!

The compnay was owned for a time by a british firm, and they are the ones who entered into the agreement with the government. It was simply a matter of business. Agree with the government, or be sued out of business, which would set an even worse precedent.

The current company has done no such thing.
