Night Stand Gun

I have an extra Kydex that fits my night stand gun, I'm thinking of rigging it up to the night stand.

Shadi, that's a great idea! I would be OK with leaving my XD or P99 in kydex over night, and hadn't thought of doing that. I do not like leaving any of my guns in a leather holster longer than I have to.

My nightstand has a fold-down front, kind of like a French writing desk. The table portion is down and my Springer Loaded 1911 sits on that table, night sights turned toward me so I can index the gun quickly if I need to. No holster, it's strictly a house gun. During the day it goes back inside and the desk portion is folded up. Also in the stand is a spare loaded mag, a Surefire 9p flashlight, an old cellphone (which allows calls to 911 only) and a 4-inch tactical folding knife. Oh yeah, and a Chapstick ...

At my house in my college town (Off Campus, a house in the town.) : Under my mattress is a Glock 17 locked open, no mag inserted, 3 mags next to it loaded with Speer 124gr +P Gold Dots. 5inch fixed blade, and mini maglite sit next to that.

At home: Glock/1911/Jframe/.44mag in the bottom of the gun cabinet right next to my bed, in the upper part of the gun cabinet is a 10 gauge, and a few 12 gauges. Across from the foot of my bed is a 12 gun cabinet with various other rifles and shotguns. Bring on the zombies.

Springer XD40 Subcompact no holster. Streamlite flashlight next to it. Also, in warmer weather LCP in De Santis Superfly because I take it out of my pocket and put it in the night stand drawer.
One caution. At this time, NO KIDS IN THE HOUSE! If there were both would be secured better.

I keep a G17, Surefire, Spyderco, and reload in the two compartment shoulder bag (pictured), hanging next to the bed in case I have to get up quickly and leave the room without having time to completely dress. The knife is clipped inside the top of the bag, the light and magazine in the front compartment, gun in rear.

Nightstand weapon

I keep a S&W model 65 in the nightstand, loaded with gold dot .38 +p, unholstered and next to a flashlight. And the 65 also wears Crimson Trace.

The Long(er) And The Short Of It

My wife's nightstand has a Springfield EMP 9mm with JHP in condition one, loosely sheathed in neoprene that only covers the barrel/slide, leaving the grip unobstructed. That's the short.

If I'm away for a night, she also has a Mossberg Defender w/pistol grip in .410 bore...extended mag. with .00 buck (the long). She feels very comfortable with the amount of recoil, whereas she simply will not shoot my Remington 870 Tac w/3" magnum loads.

The 870 is easily accessible if needed, but I would mostly rely on the RIA Compact Tactical that sits in condition one, loaded with a combination of
230 gr. hardball and CorBon GPX (and NO holster) in a concealed, but easily-accessible, niche built into the headboard on my side of the bed.

Short of Claymore mines, a pit-bull and a Ma Deuce...what have I missed? :)

anyone ever try a "fruit of the lume" front pocket, it's right there and it dosen't retain moisture, like a leather holster, and besides it's easyier to reach in the dark.:D

when no kids in the house un-holstered on top of the nightstand, when kids around, it is in biometric safe under the bed
