Night Stand Gun

Absolutely not. My Xd sits ready for action on top of my nightstand at night. If I need it in the middle of the night, in the dark, half asleep, with my family in danger there is no way I'm going to do anything to slow down that process. Having in a holster or in a drawer takes too much time.

Yes, but it's kept in a Don Hume open-top holster. Pretty quick to access. +1 on the Maglight and 2 speed loaders.

I use a GunVault bolted to the bottom shelf of my nightstand. A tactical flaslight resides beside it. On the shelf above it I keep whichever carry gun is being used of late - no holster. I keep another tactical light and phone on top of the nightstand. The alarm & dogs should afford me enough time to grab the light, input the code and grab the gun, which has less penetrating rounds than my CCW, which would serv as back up.

I ask because of something that happened the other night. A picture that was hanging on the wall outside my bedroom fell of the wall, crashing to the ground. The sound had me jumping out of bed and reaching for my holstered pistol. I didn't notice the holster was still on until I got to the door and could see it in the light.

nightstand gun

My old M-66 along with two speed strips lives in the bottom drawer of my nightstand, on top of my sweat socks. No more than one foot from my right hand.

As I now live in a town home, with a common wall, the first two rounds are MagSafe .357 and the next four are Federal 158 Gr. FBI loads, does anyone else use different loads in their home defense weapon? In my carry weapon I load Speer 158Gr. .357 ammo.

No. I have a Ruger P345 in the nightstand and if I ever need it in a hurry, I can't be fiddling with a holster. If the trigger is exposed, you can actually shoot a revolver while it's still in the holster. I guess you could do the same thing with a pistol but the difference is that you'll only get one shot off and then you're pistol will jam because the spent casing cannot eject itself clear of the holster. Some holsters it could, but most holsters hold the pistol a little deeper and actually cover the ejection port.

So, the answer is no, I do not have it in a holster. None of my pistols or revolvers are kept in holsters. Specificaly, leather holsters. They retain moisture, and all of us know that moisture is not a firearm's best buddy. More importantly, though, is in the event I'll ever need it in a hurry. I want something I can quickly grab, flick the safety off, and start educating someone very quickly on the hazards of breaking into my home!!

Nope. If someone gets past the dog, I'll be waiting for them.

At that point, they'll have killed my dog, and are considered fair game.

I remove my P99 from my leather holster when it goes into the nightstand. I don't want to be fumbling around with the holster in the time of need, and leather retains moisture. I leave them seperate over night to let them both "breath." My theory is that it should allow the leather to dry out any moisture from wearing it all day, and to let any of that moisture that may have accumulated on the gun to evaporate. I don't like to leave any of my guns in leather longer than I have to.

Mine is actually in a case within easy reach. Granted I might fumble for a second but I've had it out a few times when things go bump in the night pretty quickly.

I keep a J frame in a simple holster, non retention type. It is an old thin leather IWB steel clip S&W with the rough side out. Keeps dust and debris out of the gun fairly well but it does not impede anything as the revolver just slides in it and with little friction to hold it on. Just sort of a gun "pocket" device that brushes off with no effort. keeps the gun from getting scratched up or dusty.

Glock 26 with Glock night sights in Galco horsehide.

Also, extra mag and Surefire L4

Ruger p90 un-holstered on dresser and another one in closet with a 12ga Benelli super-90.

Always in a pancake holster without a top strap. Don't want my pistol scratching my furniture.
When I get up in the morning and get dressed I never need to go looking for my holster or pistol.
