New Cartridge 357 Ring Of Fire

All

From mavracer: " like has been said before the 357 ROF is basically a 9X23 loaded to unsafe pressure levels."

I am surprised to see so many have designed both cartridges and chambers to make such enlightening statements...

Guys,
This cartridge isn't magic. It's designed to minimize wasted space in a cartridge whose parent case was designed for black powder.
Just as Mr. Rowland has discovered an aspect of chamber and cartridge design which could stand to be improved, I have discovered something similar...and am acting on it.
Thank you for your interest!

I can imagine this cartridge used in a short M16 platform or MP5 and be about as devastating as the Thompson M27A1 but very controllable with more rounds for the weight...not to replace the 5.56, but mission specific...like 9's are today and more powerful.

Honestly you are a million light years away from anyone considering this application. I do not understand why people are still taking you seriously here. You have project which at its best is a neat hobby project but actual adoption into combat platforms is IMHO a pipe dream. Clearly YMMV

What rimless pistol cartridge was originally designed for black powder?

How is space "wasted" in a cartridge? Maximum loads are maximum loads because of the pressure they generate, whether or not they completely fill the cartridge case with powder.

What aspect of chamber design was improved to allow the 960 Rowland's development from the 9x23?

How was the cartridge design of the 960 Rowland improved over the design of the parent cartridge, the 9x23?

Why you keep wanting to peek behind the curtain? Why must you see the Wizard at work?

He's busy wizarding. You sir in the front of the audience please sit down and let the him get on with his wizardly work. Relax and Enjoy the show. He may have a gift for you at the end...a heart, courage or maybe a super pistol round!

I don't really care about that. What I'm curious about is this rimless pistol cartridge that was designed for black powder. I'm not aware of any such cartridge and would like to know about it.

If you're going to be condescending, it'd be a real good idea to not follow it up with blatently wrong information.

Is there a reason this thread is still open? Is something worthwhile going to come out of it? Has much worthwhile come up so far?

Maybe DaveElliot can come back when he has some further information on his experiments.

If this is a new calibre, not just a hot-rodded existing calibre, perhaps the OP can just patent it the design, running experiments in parallel and when the paperwork is done we can all find out how the heck it works without the OP risking his new intellectual property!

Hi guys,
I have comparatively fired a model 60 with the new cartridge.
Same bullet types and powders gave similar velocities.
I am curious about the 9x23.
Does anyone have favorite recipes they will share? Heavier bullets are preferred, but not exclusively.
I'd like to try them in my cartridge to see if there are differences.
My field testing will be on hold soon, until after hunting season.
I will be securing components and preparing brass for continuing testing.
I want to procure a longer barrel, with an additional dimension change in bore to full .357 in the groove and. 348 on the lands...if the opportunity arises: )
Thanks guys

Your planning to take 9X23 loads and simply load them in your wildcat that has different brass dimensions?

Is there a reason this thread is still open? Is something worthwhile going to come out of it? Has much worthwhile come up so far?
I'm thoroughly entertained by all this ridiculousness. Soon e will have pictures from an ER and that will prove entertaining also. Say it is crass if you like, but we all know how many times the video of the fat tactical Texan shooting himself in the leg while drawing was viewed on youtube.

Thank you Sir!
I will say one thing... I did believe the light fast bullet theories for a while, but the 38 special continuously skewed results with heavier bullets and penetration results with lower energies.
This drives me to seek a method to push 158 grain+ to match 357 ballistics.
Some folks freak about pressures, while only having familiar cartridges to reference. Using those limits, Mr. Rowland could never have produced his wonderful cartridges...and even the 9x23 would not be a reality.
These men didn't follow the crowd, neither do I.
Blazing your own path is never easy...it may not ever be fruitful either...but occasionally we manage to bring a prize or two back from our journey and efforts.
Thanks again,
Dave
