movies with a focus on the guns?

any michael mann movie (heat, collateral, public enemies, miami vice) has good gun play. and by good i dont mean action heavy or tons of rounds, i mean realistic. as in the director clearly had all the actors take training prior to filming (in fact the special features of miami vice show some of the training)

way of the gun, as mentioned earlier in the thread, has some of the best gun handling i've seen in a movie. even wounded, one handed combat reloads. fantastic.

open range, if youre into western style stuff, has a real nice final shoot out (they aim!!!)

shooter, with mark whalberg, is actually pretty good gun ****, has a few room clearing scenes and AR stuff, and some nice bolt action ****.

tears of the sun, as mentioned above, is well done. starts slow but when the **** hits the fan, it really hits the fan, and the gun handling is done very well.

naturally, saving private ryan AND band of brothers are fantastic and, frankly, i think everyone should watch, if not own, band of brothers. its fantastically done miniseries.

Did nobody watch Enemy At The Gates? That one even had a realistic dose of reloading scenes in it with scales and everything!

Don't think it's been mentioned in this particular thread but it's a Classic:

"The Untouchables"

Gun action is great but significantly enhanced by some great acting. That's the problem with some of the 'gun movies' IMO--horrible plots/acting.

In the 1987 made for TV movie Timestalkers Wllima Devane plays a college professor who buys a photograph from the Old West and determines the gunfighter shown is holding a .357-either a Python or a Dan Wesson and become convinced it is a picture of a time traveler.

... though I love the FMJ that he holds up and calls a "hollow point". At least they tried.... (it's up there with the ceramic Glock 7 from Die Hard 2)

If anyone has not seen the 1978 mercenary Classic film "The Wild Geese," do yourself a favor and see it (available on DVD starring Richard Burton and 007 Roger Moore). Great 'gunwork' featuring lots of Uzis, Galil's Hi-Powers etc... along the same lines as 1980's "The Dogs of War" featuring of all people Chritopher Walkin (he had a quick war movie run back then including "The Deer Hunter" with DeNiro).

1973's "Dillinger", starring Warren Oates. Short on facts, long on revisionism, but extra-long on firepower!

Did you see the most recent Dillinger film "Public Enemies" with Johnny Depp? It had some pretty good gun-work but I did not see the one from 73 to have an opinion pertaining to the comparison of the two.

have not seen these yet on the list
1.silverado
2.streets of fire
3.lock stock and to smoking barrel
4.swat
5.the professional
6.smoking aces
7.the punisher
8. no country for old men.

PT-92: Oh, yes, I saw it! "Public Enemies" actually came a lot closer to the facts than the 1973 film I mentioned earlier. In fact, I highly recommend the book of the same title, upon which the recent Depp film was based; it is a great read, and detailed out the wazoo. Still, do check out the Warren Oates movie I mentioned...it does have some elements of historical truth to it, and like I said before, it's still a great gun flick.

One of my favorites is Death Wish 3 when Charles Bronson tells the folks that his friend Wildey was coming. What a weapon!
