Then follow it up with Righteous Kill for an old to new De Niro/Pacino duo.
I've mentioned it before, but for an......odd movie with a lot of gun action I really like Sukiyaki Western Django. If you like the connection between samurai movies and westerns it's a really entertaining watch.
And c'mon it has dual-wielding Schofields!
Mind you I'm not saying anything about its' historical or practical accuracy. It does have shoulder-mounted 12-barreled gatling guns.
There was an offbeat monster movie a few years ago called "Tremors," which also had a prequel or sequel (don't know which came first). One move set in the present, the other in the Old West, both in the same geographical location. Both movies have very specific gun references but they're really old-fashioned late-show movies.
The Mexican with Brad Pitt, Gene Hackman and Julia Roberts. Not a "shoot em up" movie, but it was all about a old handmade gun with a great back story.
PS: It's where I coined a phrase..."Mexican fireworks". When they are in the Mexican town and every body is shooting up in the sky. A round comes down and kills Gene Hackman's grandson.
The first Tremors movie was made in 1990 IIRC and "starred" Kevin Bacon, then there were 2 sequels and 1 prequel released....in addition to a pretty bad tv adaptation. The original was one of my favorite movies growing up, I always liked Burts' bomb shelter
The series really lost me when the walking grab-thingies started flying by means of high-pressure farts , but remote-control cars strapped with explosives are always fun.
Bruce Willis in "Last Man Standing." He goes through about a million rounds of .45 in two 1911s, BGs falling like leaves ... also a second Willis movie for military fans, "Tears of the Sun." And nobody mentioned "Blackhawk Down???"
"The American" with George Clooney. While not a shoot em up movie per se, he builds a gun from scratch for an assassin and the whole process was pretty cool. A lot of emphasis on accuracy and bullet reloading.
I like Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood and the line "this is the ak-47 assault rifle. It makes a distinct sound when fired at you. It is the chosen weapon of our enemies"
The original "Getaway" with Mcqueen. I loved the line when Mcqueen told the guy to give him a 12 gauge...pump..and two boxes of 00 shot. The guy says "what are going to do, knock a wall down?"
