largest caliber you'd carry

either OC or CC, whats the largest size caliber you would consider carrying? now keep in mind this is not about barrel size, only caliber.

"only caliber"

So, it's not about the chambering either. Darkgael and a few others answered the question.

The caliber is not the deciding issue for me. It so happens that my answer is similar to darkgael's: .452. based on what I own, but I don't have a maximum caliber based on caliber. My maximum caliber would be as large as I could manage, depending on the chambering and all that comes with it, like recoil, weight and size.

I assume "carrying" means carrying concealed.

I mostly carry a 4" Smith 29 or 4 5/8" Ruger SA in 45 Colt. I don't always use the heaviest loads unless it's in good grizzly country, which, recently, has been about anywhere in my area, but a 240-250 gr bullet in either at around 1000 fps makes a good general purpose load.

I've shot various large caliber guns, the muzzle blast from them is pretty annoying to me. The 44 and 45 Colt are plenty of gun for anything I'll ever do with them including grizzlies, and the guns are easy to carry.

I don't carry concealed. Critters are more prevalent than bad guys here.
