If you had to go in first, what kind of handgun would you use?

Clearing houses with swat teams is dangerous and over-rated. Better would be laying seige to it with tanks and armoured vehicles until the residents run out of food and water and surrender peacefully.

But if a violent house 'clearing' is necessary I suppose I would prefer to use hand grenades and a rail gun :p .

Custom-fit earplugs can be had with valves

in them that screen out blasts, but allow normal hearing. Ditto electronic earmuffs, but they are somewhat more prone to being knocked off of your head in violent movement. The silencer is still a good idea, for the lack of muzzleflash. Why just assume that the place will be well lit? It might even be a poorly maintained meth lab, with the air full of ether or acetone fumes. If you are going in on terrorists, it's unwise to assume that they won't have earmuffs and body armor. To go in with just revolver would be a good way to get killed. There is a reason why Miculek chose to use mild loads, in a huge, heavy revolver for his speed record attempts. Full-charge magnum ammo is way too slow for repeat shots with a revolver. A truly handy pistol can be an advantage over any longarm, if you expect the quarters to be very tight, if you expect to have to shove hostages out of the way, if you expect to have to dive through windows, crawl through small holes knocked in interior walls, or through tunnels, crawl-spaces under trailers or homes, in attics, if you want one hand free to climb ladders, rappel down a rope, open doors or windows, etc. I might take a laser grip, but not any optic that precluded the use of the (luminous) iron sights.

We occasionally do dynamic entries, 59 during 2001 all in the execution of Felony Arrest Warrants. I would probably use the same thing I used for those with a couple of additions. The #1 man would have a Remington 870 or AR15/M4 with light. The remaining 5 would have handguns, my Dept. issues the Glock 22 and I feel okay with it, but would probably upgrade to the Glcok 35 w/M3 light attached. As opposed to a SWAT Dynamic entry we use a Slow and Deliberate Entry method, the long arm would take care of any immediate threats at the door and then the team could clear the house with handguns. One thing that I would emphasise is training with whatever you decide on , dress and use the same gear you will on game day, theirs no time outs or do overs on gameday. Be proficent and trust your team... Stay Safe...

Red Dot & instant on light on a Semi Auto 12 Gauge w/9rds of 00, backed up by a red dot sighted MP5/40 suppressed/lighted and 60 rds, going to glock 35 w/ 2 hicaps/ light/trijicons. I will have practiced with each weapon intimately a min. 1000 - 2000 rds beforehand and made peace w/ my Lord and then unleash hell on my enemy. Hope I don't forget my electric muffs, body armor, pepper spray, and SOG blade.
I've never been in combat, hope I never will but I often train for it. Training keeps me humble...
