If you had to go in first, what kind of handgun would you use?

Well, depends on the mission. I was thinking on the lines of hostage rescue; if we're dealing with desperate terrorists, I'd rather be able to move in quietly so the guys guarding the hostages aren't alerted as my team disposes of the ones out front.

striderteen,

Again, look at some real ops: the Israeli paras at Entebbi, GSG-9 at Mogadishu, the SAS at Princes Gate; not a lot of silencers in use. (Kinda moot anyway, since flashbangs make a lot of noise...) ;)

But in Rainbow Six, your choice is a good one.

Now that were talking Israeli, the Uzi is also nice. The things are heavy as all get-out but it makes it nice when you zip through a clip. The open breech design is a bit unusual I must say.

Back to the MP5, the one I had experiences with would put the firing pin mark virtually in the same place when you had it in the three-shot burst mode. It was deliciously accurate and it just looked plain scarry but then so does an UZI coming from nowhere.

I know this is the handgun forum but I cannot lie when it it comes to a rapid entry----------------------give me an SMG and I'll use the pistol for backup.

FBI HRT and SWAT like the 1911 for their handgun, but (given the parameters laid out at the beginning of the thread), I just thought of something that I think can trump my FBI-spec SA Professional.

An HK SP-89 is a handgun, right?

...even with a Fleming auto sear. ;)

Larry Vickers 1911

If I had to go through a door and new my a## was in the wind then its a Larry Vickers Springfeild single stack or high cap 1911
yeah I know he does not build a high cap but I would send him my sister to build me one...or the factory Springfeild Pro-Model
I use a HK USP 45 daily as a duty weaponand have no fears about going into "hot water" with this at my hip...but I also have a M-4 on stand by and if i know its "ifffyyyy" then she would prob. be along for the ride..Stay Healthy

Rookie

If I had to go I would make the rookie go first....
other than that maybe that Vickers as a sidearm but as a Primary how bout an AUG in a 16 inch version....not the 9mm but in 223
My 20 inch AUG is only 31 inches overall ..compact..and a helluva round..no hollywood MP5 ..

One alone? Sig 220ST .45, a pair of mags. What else?

Can I bring friends?

Sig 229 .40 in the right side holster, 92FS in a holster. Two spare hicaps for each of those.

All of those (with possibly the exception of the Israeli paras, I'm not familiar with that op) were decades ago and suppressor technology has improved since then. Didn't they use suppressors at the Peru Embassy hostage rescue in 1994, at least on some of the weapons?

I dunno - if it were me personally, I'd rather have the advantage of a bit more stealth rather than going in and going deaf. Especially for all of the people who want to use short-barreled 5.56mm weapons - those things are LOUD! I've seen reports of SWAT guys coming out of small rooms with bleeding ears after shooting off a string of 5.56 from their short-barreled AR-15's. Suppressors take the edge off of the muzzle blast.

I don't know if the theory that making lots and lots of noise is going to make the enemy hysterical. I know that if I were a badguy and I was hearing loud loud gunshots coming from another room, I'd realize that my rifle could shoot through walls and I'd see if I could nail some people.

Again, I'm not a SWAT guy, so what do I know, right?

On further thought, forget the SOCOM. Gimme a Russian PP-93
machine pistol...looks vaguely like a Colt 1911, but with folding stock, suppressor, laser sight and 30 rounds of 9x18mm ammo.

The thing can be fired one-handed even in full-auto (the Russians tend to do things like that -- they LOVE full-auto), and it can do so with a fair degree of accuracy at a range of up to 25 meters.

SPLHG 90 – Big Fragmentation hand grenade, followed by Flash Bangs then enter with tactical Shotgun.

Or why enter when you can just get rid of it

I'd pick the gun I was most proficient with; even if it was just a 9 mm, a low calibre impact on target is way better than a .50 hole in the wall a foot from the bad guy....

I'd have to use a radio- call in airstrikes n' arty! :D But if I had to take a handgun (why on Earth I wouldn't have a rifle I don't know...) I would take a nice 1911 or a CZ-75 Mil w/15 round mag. All the suppressed/full auto handguns like the G18 would be fairly useless. The suppressed toys have distinct disadvantages because of the reasons Tamara has been repeating...over..and...over ;) Has anyone ever heard of Walker's Tactical Ear III? It amplifies sound 9X and acts as plugs when a gun goes off. The full auto pistols are not very controllable. Thus, your hit ratio would be low. Does anyone know how long it takes to fire a G18 dry?

Ted Nugent had no complaints about the G18 :p
If he emptied the entire mag through a basketball-size hole at seven yards, so can I.

'Course, I really wouldn't know that until I fired one myself :D

Well I would want a reliable handgun that leaves many custom 1911's out. I would take my Glock 31 its accurate powerfull and reliable.

Now if I could pick a real gun it would be my Colt CAR15 with Eotech holo sight, Surefire millenium light, But stock mag pouch, back up arms iron sights and my beta mag.
