How much ammo do you carry daily

Flash Mob?? Now we are in a different situation.Use your imaginations. I would be using some flashbang ammo. That would stop them in their tracks. Kind of goes with the flash mob.

most flash mobs dont have any guns on them (that they've used). and i doubt once someone shoots a couple shots at a flashmob that they would stick around very long. but i still think its wise to carry at least 1 reload mag.

Depends on where im goin..if its to my local grocery store..1 mag..15 rnds..if im heading down into the valley up to three full mags.45 rounds...two filled with hollow points 1 filled with ball ..just in case....the valley has been getting a little crazy lately

Just curious. Can anyone show evidence of a regular citizen, not LEO, defending himself/herself, while cc'ing in public, actually discharging multiple mags. Real evidence of the event, not 'I heard a story...'

Steve

Multiple magazines are not as crazy as you might think, since many semiauto malfunctions are actually mag malfunctions. In which case, one can drop the problem mag and replace it pretty quickly.

I carry 2 reloads for my main gun (Glock 23) and at least 1 reload for my 640 Pro.

I am not going to call people idiots for carrying only capacity, you just do not have the experience to make the right decision. I have seen the outcome of people that did that (carried only what fit in their guns) and saved their butts on more than one occasion.

If that is how you feel fine, but carrying a gun is no place to get lazy or complacent, complacency kills.

Flash Mob?
Flash mobs are so six months ago. These days, the Scare of the Week is bath salts.

There was a flash mob attack on a public transit train in Atlanta last year. I lost count of how many people claimed they'd have ended it with a pistol.

In reality, such an attack would be a tactical nightmare. Distinguishing genuine aggressors from guys who are just yelling, prioritizing targets, and watching backgrounds would be nearly impossible in a case like that.

Multiple occasions, really? In self defence situations?

Yes,

I have stated my experience on more than one occasion. Thirty two years of LE experience in some of the highest crime areas of the country. Between being an Officer with the Ft Worth, Texas PD and an agent with the US Border Patrol I have seen and been involved in a lot of different situations. I am merely trying to pass wisdom to those who will listen.

I'll ask again. Can anyone point out an actual instance, where a civilian citizen, cc'ing in public, expended multiple mags in self defense.

Since you are limiting this to auto's lets discuss.

You will use what is available, there are a few of us left that were drilled into-"you only have 6 make em count". You may like to have a spare for a malfunction. A prudent man would reload when he thinks the fight is over, just in case it is not over.

There was the incident a the Salt lake city mall, where the responder (who happened to be an off duty cop) only had one mag and used all that to keep the BG pinned down.

I'm not talking about a responder. I'm sure that off duty cop went to the scene to respond. I said a regular citizen, cc'ing for their own protection, who has used multiple mags. The point I'm trying to make is that, in my opinion, way to much is made of carrying a handgun with capacity in the teens with backup mags on one's person. It's fine if that's what you want to do, I just think it's overkill (sorry). It's the old "I'd rather have it and not need it, as need it and not have it".
I am more of a practice and get proficient with well placed shots than a rapid fire guy. Not trying to rile anybody, just saying you never hear of a civilian in a multiple mag firefight, at least I never have.

Another off-duty officer (so not a civilian, per se) was NOT responding, he was present when a crime went down, was the officer at the San Ysidro McDonald's.

He expended the 10rd magazine in his Glock without even realizing it, very quickly, with a 90% hit rate.

Stress can do funny things. It's not a bad idea to have a spare.

People who argue against capacity or spares confuse me. If I can conceal a pistol, I can almost always conceal a spare magazine, loader, or strip. Guess it's too much trouble for some, so they'd rather just argue statistics.

Ya know I had to really give this a bit of thought.
I usually dont carry on me, but I keep my pistol in the truck. Job don't let us carry, gov't gig.
However, my back seat also has most of my range gear 9 days out of 10. So I have a ammo can of .223 and one of 9mm so on any given day, about a 1,000 rounds of each.

as for loaded magazines one in the sig, and one spare in the console

My hero for ammo carry is a former policeman at a local little town. He was overweight and had a real problem with his Glock mags stabbing him in the rib cage or his leg, . . . he came to me looking for relief.

I made him two mag carriers, . . . they laid horizontal, . . . along the front two panels of his belt, . . . both opened so he grabbed the bottom end of the mag with his left hand.

Some of the most creative leather work I ever did, . . . he absolutely loved them, . . .

AND, . . . from then on he carried extra mags.

My other hero was a cop, . . . off duty, . . . I'm thinking Minnesota, . . . went into his bank, . . . 5 minutes before the robbers came in.

Long story short, . . . all he had was his 5 shot .38 special in an ankle holster, . . . managed to survive, . . . had angels helping him I think.

End of that story was his vow never to be caught without extra ammo again.

May God bless,
Dwight
