How much ammo do you carry daily

Kahr PM40 with 5 + 1....
plus 2 spare 5 round magazines in a nylon mag pouch in my rear pocket.
The magazines are so small and light that it's a no-brainer to carry a couple of spares.

Handguns aren't props or fashion statements.

A spare pistol magazine or a few ammunition speed-strips are not; "pounds of gear". To have the mindset like post #77 is irresponsible.
If you can't commit to proper tactics or methods, then you shouldn't carry a loaded firearm in public, IMO.

That's just silly. Do you also keep a second fire extinguisher in your kitchen, two jerry cans of gas on your back bumper, a spare cell phone battery? All of these things are more likely to help you out than a reload for your carry gun.

Proper tactics or methods are personal preference and not to be dictated by others.

Ruger SR9C, IWB, 10 +1, with a single or double 17 round back-up weak side. The extra, extra magazine is only worn/carried when I am afield as in out-in-the-fields or when it's cooler weather and I can wear an extra concealing garment.

For warmer weather carry I have gone with a S&W 642 in a pocket holster and one speed strip of five in the other.

In the case of a semi-auto I feel that a magazine is a part that can easily fail when Murphy is around and a quick mag chance can possibly remedy the problem. With the snubby, five shots with a back-up is all I can deal with in shorts and t-shirt.

i see alot of people write about not carrying extra ammo with them which to me would be fine if i was carrying a 50 round mag for my glock but who does that?

i was on the range today breaking in my new cm9. i try to put in my mind real life scenarios and was thinking that the target was about to kill my wife. when i shot my 6 round mag it went so fast compared to my G23's 13 round and i thought to myself that one of the worse feelings in the world has to be running out of ammo in a gun fight.

im not saying that you have to carry 3 mags for your primary and 3 mags for your BUG (unless you want to). but i think that its smart to carry at least 1 extra mag with ya. i know people say that most fights are over after a couple rounds but come on, if i could pick my circumstances for a gun fight I WOULDNT SHOW UP. since i cant i chose to carry at least 1 spare mag....my 2 cents

Post 77: KelTec P-11 with 11&1.
It's hot down here. If that doesn't get the job done, I'd rather die the relatively fast death of street combat than the slow, miserable death of packing pounds of gear through the blazing heat...

Clyde, I do not wish to instigate a ******* contest, but I would like to respond.

My choice of weapon and daily carry load is what works for me. As a fellow combat veteran, who also lives a happy, normal civilian life, I have found a way for ME to carry that is both comforting AND comfortable. My pocketed weapon is no more a prop or fashion statement that my knife, phone, wallet or keys in the other pockets.

You correctly note that a spare mag is not "pounds of gear". Please forgive my less than successful stab at lightheartedness or humor. I did exaggerate for effect, but I think most people got my point.

I must protest that I do not feel irresponsible or that I am using improper tactics or methods, as you stated. I carry a dependable, well maintained weapon with which I diligently practice to be proficient. The only tactics or methods I feel beholden to are:

Keep it concealed,
Have it when I need it,
Be well trained enough to use it properly, and
Use it as a last resort to protect life.

Any tactic or method beyond that is not my job or responsibility. In fact I feel more responsible because, in my 40-some years of existence, the primary tool between my ears has worked well enough that the secondary tool in my pocket has been, so far, an un-executed "plan B". God willing, it will stay that way.

I respect your opinion but disagree.

Thanks.

Out of gas...

If you "run out of gas", you're not likely to be murdered or seriously wounded, unlike a violent crime/gunfight.
As a gun owner/armed citizen, it's your choice to decide how or what you carry.
My point is that a better method to DEFEND yourself in a lethal force event is to carry at least 1 or 2 spare mags/speedstrips.
To only rely on one magazine or one cylinder of 5/6 handgun rounds is not prudent.
You may not need a spare magazine or speedloader in a critical incident but it's worth having with you, "just in case" ;).

Carry at least one reload

If nothing else, you wouldn't have to go home with and empty, or partially empty firearm. It just seems too easy and very prudent to carry at least one reload.

I carry one bandolier under my shirt with 40 rounds. Its uncomfortable and makes me speak with a fake Spanish accent but I know I am well prepared. And this way I don't need no stinkin' magazines!

But where do you draw the line? An extra magazine in case the first isn't enough? An extra gun in case the first malfunctions? A 2nd spare gun in case the first two fail?

I am entirely confident that the one gun I carry and the ammo load that is in it will get me and mine home if the situation ever presents itself that I might need it.

I don't go to places where I think one gun isn't enough and if I lived in a place like that I'd move. I have the resources to move and my work is such that I can live just about anywhere. If I was less fortunate I might consider the need for more firepower. Everybody's situation is different.

Maybe we should dictate that anyone who doesn't carry a knife shouldn't carry a gun either? ;)

Seriously, I don't believe you are really against guys like me carrying, but you come off that way.

Glock Model 17
with 32 rounds of WW 115gr JHP +p+ rounds in two magazines.

IMO that is what makes the 9mm so effective--the massive capacity mixed with a very good-punch with the proper load. It sounds so simple but 30+ rounds in two mags just feels right as well as practical.:)

10+1 on my person, and ill grab an extra mag to stick in the center console of the car. If I am wearing a jacket then ill just carry the extra mag in a pocket since its not a burden. If I carry my J frame I always keep a speed strip in my pants pocket, its just too small not too and with only 5 rounds it cant hurt to have a reload handy.

Quote. You can probably defend yourself with 5 round.

You are kidding your self 5b rounds can go very quickly.

People on this site or quick to say they carry a firearm gust in case. One of the favorite replies is that its like putting a seat belt on in a car (just in case).
But they then go on and say that 5 pounds is plenty, why not carry more ( just in case). They will say that most occasions that someone needs to use their firearm its after a only a few rounds are fired that might be true but like putting a seat belt on in a car why take the chance.

Normally only what's in the gun

Pretty much. What I carry depends on what I'm doing and clothing requirements

Bersa 45 - 7+1 occasionally a reload (cooler weather)
Bersa 380CC - 8+1 (hot - also serves as bug to the 45)
Ruger GP 4" - 6 with reload (winter)
Beretta 92 - 15+1 (mainly on nightstand duty but carry on occasion, especially when headed into Cleveland for anything)

And if I need more than the above at any given time I should really go home and rethink my life choices

Edit - also ASP in the console, usually knife in pocket
