How much ammo do you carry daily

typically I carry my J-frame (357 magnum) with 1 extra speed loader and then a NAA 22 short mini revolver with 5 shots of 22 Short as a back up.

When I have to go to a bad area for my job I strap on the Coonan in a shoulder holster with 4 extra mags and throw in an extra speed loader for a grad total of 51 357 magnum rounds and five 22short rounds.

For duty work, I carry two spare magazines in the pouch on my belt. For off-duty relaxation, I carry the capacity of the handgun and a cell phone.

I agree with the reasoning on bringing 5 rounds vs 6 in the speed strip, but why don't they just make the strip that much longer so you still get a good grip. Figure an extra half inch can't be a deal breaker for concealment.

I dont care what youtube or 9mm says. I carry a .357 j-frame with no reload strips or any other ammo than the 5 rounds in the gun. I wear shorts and a t shirt virtually all year and just don't feel the need to carry a couple of pounds of lead in a pouch.
If you were to shoot someone in self defense- it sure looks better for you if you're carrying a snub vs a Glock with a 33rd mag. I k.ow the law doesnt care what you carry or how many rounds, but in light of recent events here in Fl, I've been thinking about this subject a lot lately. The media would have a field day with someone carrying 50 rounds of ammo for SD. I have no problem with it-I'm just saying that if forced to use it, there is going to be some sort of a legal aftermath. To the media- having three mags on your belt will be a sure sign that "he was definitely armed to the teeth and out to kill".

zombieslayer,

Unfortunately, I cannot say that given today's tilt towards the left that we are witnessing in our society as a whole but, in particular, in our judicial system that you are incorrect regarding the 'potential' negative ramifications of carrying additional ammo though there are many variables that will come into play. Also, you are clear that you do not have a problem with it etc. So I see your perspective as a valid point.

Yet my concern (on a macro-level) is that not only our country but the world as we know it (particularly relative to the fragile financial state of the entire international community which means what happens 'there' immediately has adverse effects here) is on the precipice of social chaos (we already see significant examples of such).

On a more micro-like level and in my neighborhood, for example, there are constant/perpetual "social" problems increasingly involving so called "flash mobs" whereby individuals are simultaneously attacked by 10's of people.

I was going to post some links but we can all youtube this stuff ourselves if vivid illustrations are necessary. So while I agree with your concern, I have chosen to carry an extra mag or two or a BUG just to be sure because I refuse to be the next victim of a group-thug-like attack.

-Cheers

I almost always carry at least a reload. I'd like to fill it back up once I make cover. I also frequent areas where my CCW serves and pest control. I have spare ammo in the truck too.

*people who carry 5 shots or just no reload for a gun are idiots,

Agree, which is why always I strap a 33 round mag on each side under my arms and carry a mag pouch with 2 mags of 15 more rounds each for my Glock 19. Total rounds :111, ready to go to war every freakin day!!!

Ok, kidding, in all seriousness I completely disagree and carry what I have in my gun. I usually carry just 10 rounds to reduce weight and save the mag springs, but I will load up 15 if I am going into the city. I have no problem using that one magazine to get the heck out of wherever I am. If all else fails I have Jesus instead of 111 rounds of ammo. Not trying to make it a religious discussion, but I'm not scared of what will happen to me when I die. I still carry a gun and will defend myself, but I don't want to carry around extra mag(s) every day.

It's what a guy on youtube once said, people who carry 5 shots or just no reload for a gun are idiots, you don't know what your threat is or whats going to happen. Sure you got x shots, but can you it in those x shots? what if you miss?

Taking the word of some guy who makes blanket statements on youtube as good advice isn't very adviseable. I carry a 5-shot revolver quite often and while I do carry a speed strip with another 5 rounds, I only do so because its convenient enough that I can't think of a good reason not to. If, however, circumstances dictated that a reload was more burdensome to carry, I'd feel perfectly well armed with just the five rounds in my gun. While I suppose there is the miniscule possibility that I'll be accosted by a flash mob of 10+ people, I figure that if I'm attacked by that many people determined to harm me who are willing to brave gunfire, then no amount of capacity is likely to save me. While I don't look down upon those who carry copious amounts of ammo, I think that I and a great many other people are much more likely to run out of time and/or distance before we run out of ammo.

For the two guns I carry regularly ... NAA Pug, five in the gun, five extras in the holster tho it would take a week to reload in an emergency ... for my Kahr PM9, 6+1 in the gun, spare 7-rd mag in weakside pocket ...

I don't much care what a guy on YouTube once said, and I know I"m not an idiot. If I'm out with my wife, I've got mine and she's got hers and the bad guy's tactical situation just got a lot more complicated. If, God Forbid, someone wants to get twitchy when I"m out with my sons, then I've got mine and they've got theirs, and the bad guy's situation just got downright complex.

Naah, I'm not an idiot. I do this sorta thing for a living.

No, this is real, there is this thing in a old magazine I read, it holds 5 spare mags in the same manner a magazine holds bullets, $69.95. I definately am willing to bet that a mag pouch is inferior.

If I'm carrying my usual off-duty piece [Ruger P-90], I back it up with one spare magazine, although I'm about to upgrade to two reloads. On the rare occasions I'm carrying my GP-100, two extra speed loaders are the norm.
