How much 22LR do you have.

I have not counted exactly, but it is a lot. I slowly stocked up over years. This means that my oldest boxes that I am currently using are more than 5 years old.

I came here to post the importance of storing ammo in a climate controlled location. I opened up one of my older boxes a year ago and the cartridges were corroded. They shot 'ok' for the most part, but it was annoying. I had put them in my gun safe, which I assumed to be a relatively dry location....but apparently not. Now I generally store that stuff in ammo boxes. Don't be like me.

I have somewhere around 600 rounds I believe. I rarely shoot 22 so I did not have any sort of stockpile before it got hard to find and since the insanity took over I've managed to find exactly one 333 round box at a normal price.

I purchase roughly 500 rounds a month, but I only have about 5000 rounds in total. I shoot 250-500 rounds a month. So it gets rotated regularly.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but is anyone doing dramatically more shooting, or noticing a lot more people at the range than a couple of years ago?
I'm seeing the opposite. "Nobody" is shooting because it's so expensive, and very few are shooting rimfire because it's so rare and even more expensive.
For every shooter who buys 500 rounds a month, there's apparently ten non-shooters buying 5000 rounds a month. The numbers just don't add up, otherwise.

The numbers from ranges and NSSF say that there are a lot more people shooting, up more than 30% from 2010. Lack of ammo is probably hurting that some.

Our range has gone from about 60 events a year to over 150 in that same timeframe and from 500 members to 1300 members. In 2010, every match I wanted to shoot I could get into, now half the matches I want to shoot have waiting lists within a few minutes of registration opening, or a lottery to get a slot.

Rimfire Challenge Worlds went from 50 competitors to over 140 in that timeframe and the regional and local matches have increased over 100% in that same timeframe. It might upset some people, but NSSF has worked with Corporate sponsors to secure millions of rounds of .22RF for registered RFC matches in 2015. We brought in 60K rounds as the first batch for the RFC Worlds in October. Aguila, Winchester and CCI from 7.5 to 9 cents a round.

From SandyHook until now, there are over 6 million first time gun owners in the US and some of them want to go shoot. I say good! :D

And about two billion rounds of .22 rimfire ammo made, a very reasonable 334 rounds per person.

6400 total. Most bought this year. Between 6 and 10 cpr. Only paid 15 cpr once because I was distracted while waiting for my check to go thru on a gun purchase. Lol

In my area there are definitely more folks shooting. There are a couple of new ranges that have opened in the area and in spite of that, even the old ones are much busier than they were just a couple of years ago.

I honestly hate to admit how much 22LR I have stored. It's a big number and far in excess of 20K. Haven't bought any in a couple years. Never see it and I won't stand in line to buy one box. The last 22LR I bought was the new & improved Remington Golden Bullets (225 pack) when it came out, so you can see it has been a while.

I'm not sure how much they were going for prior to the craze, could anyone give me their opinion? Seems a bit steep still, but it's roughly .10 a round at that price. Is this the new norm or should I just remain patient and hope the price drops a bit more as things slowly calm down?

500pack Thunderbolts were in the range of $20 prior to SH. I bought 5K from Sportsmans Guide in 2011 for $189. Even better quality 22LR was in the range of 5 to 7 cents pre SandyHook. The Match grade stuff was running 10 to 20 cents a round. The last match grade Eley primed ammo I bought pre SH was 16 cents a round.

I don't know anyone would buy TB at almost 10 cents a round when you can buy CCI at 8 cents a round.

CCI Mini-mags run roughly 12.99 to 13.99 per 100 rounds up where I'm at here in Utah, not exactly cheap sadly.

I don't ever expect the prices to drop to what they were prior to SH, but it looks like I'll just have to be patient and keep looking for good deals whenever they come up.

Just bites that the cost for .22 LR is so darn bad. Maybe within another year or two, if we're lucky the market will recover enough to where the prices will begin to fall.

As it is though, I unfortunately didn't have the funds to stock up on ammo before all the panic buying started. Now it's a box here,a box there, whenever I could find a somewhat reasonable priced box, I'll try to add a little to my (small) stash.

Though I typically try to leave some for other customers, unlike some of the folks who buy it all and then flip it on the internet.

Yep, at the consumption rate of more than 1K/month, I was starting to get worried. Federal AutoMatch is in stock at Midway right now for 5 cents a round...

I have 500 rounds. At some point I'll buy some more but I hate to pay the going rate. At some point when I do, I'll start shooting my Ruger again.

Too much unless you just have to. It is also not the highest quality 22LR ammo around. I believe Gander Mt had them on sale for $25 around Christmas in my area. I didn't even visit the store. I knew if I stepped foot into the store I'd drop $100+, and I had no need. So I didn't. I visited my first Cabelas store in December. That was fun. They had zero 22LR and zero 22 WMR. But Bass Pro is pretty much just as good. Cabelas and BP are building new stores in my area currently. That means I can swing by one of these stores about anytime I feel like it versus making a 2hr+ drive.

Not sure exactly in the thousands. Last time I bought any was in 2005. I bought a fair amount on sale, as it was the only caliber that I don't reload. I think it will come back down...just not sure when.
