H&K Jamming Problem

Just got back from range, this has got to be the worst gun I've ever fired. The first rack jammed, first 3 shots stove piped. I went through 300 rounds for hope of a break in but it was torture. Out of 10 rounds in each mag I would successfully fire 5-6, the rest would stove pipe, this is ridiculous.

I bought this at Gander Mountain on Sunday, am I still able to return it? Is it legal to sell a product this crappy? Sorry for language but I am very angry, spending a grand on a product you expect decent quality, not this. Should I call HK customer support? Should I expect the service support from hell? Honestly this is infuriating.

You can ask Gander Mountain if they'll take it back (apparently some stores have tremendous customer service -- one would hope with the absurd prices), but why not see if HK will make it right first? Call them up and ask them to cover shipping. Apparently they're not as bad in the customer service realm as they used to be.

My only poly HK (USP Elite in .45) has actually been very unreliable through the first 400 rounds of its life. I dropped the ball and turned my attention to other hobbies without sending it in three or so years ago when I bought it. I guess I need to test out HK's new and improved CS here soon myself.

For all the rave about HK this is honestly the worst gun I've ever fired. This definitely beats the rusty Ruger SR22 I've shot in terms of quality. Wow....just wow, I am blown away right now.

Something smells funny about this whole thread, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt.

First off, one would wonder why you'd spend that kind of money.. and at a place like Gander Mountain... if you're already a gun owner. I would assume you did SOME kind of homework on the gun and appropriate prices before purchasing. Was this gun brand new or was it used?

You can get a new USP Compact under $600 with the current rebate - good through Dec 31.

What you are describing is obviously not normal, but to question if it should be illegal to sell a gun that has problems? Come on.

Tell you what. I'll give you $500 for your broken, unreliable USP Compact. PM me if you want.

I have the receipt, gun is listed as 999, I did the research but in my area and wanted to get an HK for the 200 rebate, since it sounded like a good deal. Yes it is a new gun.

I've called all the gun shops close to where I live and only Gander Mountain carries one. Why would I lie for no reason.

What kind of ammo are you shooting?

Honestly, I'd say that you should contact HK customer service immediately. They are very good and will get the gun taken care of.

HK's are one of the few guns that I've owned a dozen of and not a single one has ever had even one failure.

The USP Compact is one of my favorites.

PMC FMJ 115gr, Winchester FMJ 115gr, and Remington Golden Saber JHP 115gr.

I don't remember any particular differences as they all stovepiped pretty much consistently.

Did you have problems with the Golden Saber as well?

HK's are designed around 124gr NATO spec ammo so sometimes the low powered 115gr loads can have hiccups in a new gun with fresh springs. I primarily shoot 124gr.

The only ones I've really heard of having break-in issues with light 115gr ammo is the P30L though.

Its not about paying 100-300 dollars more than actual price, its about paying money for a product that doesn't function.

Come on...my Springfield eats anything, has jammed maybe twice...

Not sure what your point is. HK makes military guns make for military ammo. Springfield does not.

As I said, you should definitely contact HKCS and they will get you squared away.

Sorry to hear that you're having problems. I internet too much and am always terribly apprehensive the first time(s) to the range with any new gun, just waiting for an experience like yours. Luckily so far my guns have been solid.

I would say if you want to try a quick range trip yet, maybe try some 124 grain, hotter stuff if you can find it (I don't know brands, sorry).

But definitely call H&K first and see if they can help you and/or fix your gun before you try to return it to Gander.

Thanks, I'll call them tomorrow, I just sent email to them today. If they reply I'll let you guys know. of result.

I'm going to break this to you. Every company, even the mighty HK, makes a lemon on occasion. For a guy that raves so much about his Springfield, I'm not sure why you bought the HK in the first place (and Springfield makes lemons on occasion too, try to remember a sample size of one is pretty much useless). But since you did buy it and you are having the problems you're having, you can either deal with it as a responsible adult or continue your tirade that certainly doesn't help you. You could try bringing it to Gander, though obviously they're not under any legal obligation to replace it for you. The best bet is likely to contact HK customer service, explain your issues, and go from there. In the dozen or so HKs I've owned I have had 2 malfunctions in about 12,000 rds. That doesn't mean what you're experiencing doesn't stink, nor am I saying you're lying. I'm just saying that what you are experiencing is abnormal for the brand. I own 3 M&Ps currently despite having sent 3 different M&Ps to S&W at different times. See if the company makes it right.

I'll call them tomorrow, I work from 8 30 to 5 but we have a party tomorrow and I can probably find some time to call them. Anyone know of the hold times?

I got the HK because of the rebate, it seems like a good deal, I like buying and collecting different guns. Obviously some I don't like and end up selling, this is not a very good first experience with HK.

I'll call them first thing tomorrow morning, sorry if I come off as rude, I was pretty upset after the range trip, it was embarrassing.
