Gun grease/lube question

I didn't say grease was prohibited, - well actually if a soldier was putting grease on a weapon and the manual didn't say to put grease on the weapon he would get a butt-chewing and remedial training in reading and remedial training in proper care and maintenance of.... yada yada yada.

I just find it interesting that the Army doesn't use it. It's not like they have a problem with grease either - lots of equipment gets grease.

I think it's interesting that the Sigs ship with grease. The manual for the
P220 mentions gun grease on page 38

Oh BTW - this from the Sig P220 manual:

Use lubricants sparingly on the moving parts of your firearm. Avoid excessive spraying of any aerosol gun care product, especially where it may get on ammunition. All lubricants and aerosol spray lubricant, in particular, can penetrate cartridge primers and cause misfires.

Sound like WD40? ^

Page 38:

Avoid over-lubrication of components.

Clean exterior surfaces of the barrel with a brush coated with gun oil.

Remove dirt from guides of the frame, inside and outside of slide, recoil spring guide and recoil spring with a brush or cleaning patch. Lightly lubricate same surfaces with a cloth impregnated with gun oil or gun grease.

Lightly oil bores of the barrel and chamber.

Remove any excess lubricant.

Note: TW-25B or a like lubricant designed for stainless steel is recommended for “All Stainless” models, such as the P220 ST or P226 ST.

CAUTION : Avoid over lubrication of components.

I found out today that Eezox has chlorinated ester.

Here is the MSDS for Eeezox:

http://www.eezox.info/msds.html

The chlorinated ester is Trichloroethylene.

Trichloroethylene, is actually a combination of carbon, chlorine, and hydrogen, C2HCl3.

A person on the Ruger forum sent an e-mail to Eezox and the rep said that Eezox does have chlorinated esters but only in minute amounts and not enough to cause pitting or corrosion.

I also found out that Walmart's Super Tech Extreme Pressure Mutli-Duty Complex Hi-Temp Grease does not have any Chlorine or chlorinated esters in it.

What a relief that was.

I had stored some of my firearms in Walmart GP grease. :)
