Depends if your talking about revolvers or semi-autos

Primary weapon: Revolver:.357 Semi auto:.45 ACP

Secondary weapon: Revolver:.38 spc +p Semi auto: 9mm.

On any given day im going to be carrying 2 of those for calibers...

Unless im feeling exotic, Hehehe...

.38 special. my S&W revolvers like them.......reliable...accurate.....easily obtainable....lower recoil and will get the job done, when the whip comes down.

In revolvers, I love the .38 Special. What a wonderful cartridge, absolutely manageable with proven man stopping power and reliability. I respect the .357 Magnum greatly, but am not particularly skilled with it.

I feel the same way. I shoot .357 Magnum as accurately, but not as quickly as .38 Special.

I am not much into kenetic energy, ft-lbs, velocity, energy transfer and stuff like that. Good .38 loads offer plenty of penetration ability, which combined with shot placement, are what really count (in addition to keeping your cool).

Like 45 ACP, 38 is a low pressure load without a lot of crack and ear splitting bang, a nice bonus for indoor use. Followup shots are a snap, particularly from a medium weight service revolver. Plus I simply shoot revolvers better, so yet another reason why 38 Special is my favorite all-around caliber.

I own 6 revolvers chambered in 38 Special, more than any other caliber. So that says it all.

44 mag by far! I shoot mild loads, 17.5g of 2400 behind a 240g bullet, and it still produces enough thump at the indoor range to attract attention from shooters in neighboring lanes :D

Kind of a toss up between .357 and .44 mag. I reload for both, which gives me a nice spread from light .38-special-velocity plinking rounds (in .357 cases) up through heavy .44 hunting rounds. It would be a hard choice if I could only have one. Probably end up with the .357 ... unless I could find a nice three-inch five-shot .44 on something smaller than an N frame.

In semi auto for carry & Home defense I like the .45ACP

In a revolver I like the .44Mag

For shooting all day at the pistol range I like the .22LR
