Regarding the issue of folks fumbling with/failing to figure out the safeties on their own weapons - well, lots and lots of folks can't keep their heads on straight under stress and fear, and likely those are the same folks who can't shoot straight under stress and fear anyway. No amount of "training" will ever eliminate that from some people, and no weapon, safety-equipped or not, will either. Some folks are just flat-out nervous and cannot handle themselves in those situations. That's not the fault of the safety device - it's just what happens to some people who don't know how to handle themselves in a life-threatening situation.

1911, BHP of course. glock-lack of external safety does not bother me. Double action w/decocker- decocker is off.

No external safety. I think KISS is very important in a gunfight. Things have already gone South if you've drawn your gun. I like pull, point (aim if time), and shoot. Have seen films of guys forgeting to take their gun off safe when things got bad and it went very bad fo them. And yes you can train until letting the saftey off is reflexive. As I said to me it's just more to go wrong in an already bad situation.

Yes, but that's because I prefer the 1911 platform. I know that design the best, and shoot it well. To me, the safeties are a bonus. If I shot Glocks well, I would consider those...but that's not the case.
